Biography
It was so hard seeing her after the incident. The love of his life getting hurt, and she barely even seemed bothered by it.
Trample didn't live among the others, he lived a bit to the outskirts, and he liked it. But that meant he hadn't been there to see what happened. Now, Natt was lying on the ground sleeping, resting from her injuries, deeply sleeping in a cave. Trample was looking after her together with Dag, Natts sister.
"What happened?" Trample paced back and forth a bit, trying to contain his emotions, but then he looked up and realized how stressed Dag was about it too. He calmed down instantly, "how are you feeling?"
"I.. ugh it was just.." she took a deep breath and looked really sad, so Trample put his paw on her shoulder to try to comfort her. She looked up at him, "it was really scary. I feel so bad for not stepping in, but it happened so fast.."
"It's not your fault," Trample said, without really knowing what happened. Dag nodded and after a pause, she seemed to understand his desire to know every detail.
"We were just hanging out I guess, by the fire pit. I think there was a council meeting or something? I have no idea honestly.." she sighed, "all I know is, suddenly wolves start yipping over by the treeline, I see a wolf on the ground and Alpha standing above her, looking really angry. A fight broke out between the alpha and Ivar, so I assume the wolf on the ground was his aunt or something.."
Trample understood she eant that the aunt died, so he nodded in silence.
"So naturally, Natt is stupid enough to run over there to break up the fight. I think I had a blackout or something, I was so worried. Next thing I know, Natt is on the ground and Arla has come from nowhere to protect her, thank the gods. I was just about to reach Natt and check on her, when she gets up from the ground and rushes over to them. I've never been more scared, Puff," Dag looked at the ground. She was the only one who still used his old nickname from when he was a pup, he had gotten it from his old pack because he was really hairy when he was born. Little puff, they called him. Dag and Natt had laughed about it and teased him, but now it was used lovingly and he didn't mind. For some reason, Natt had stopped using it altogether.
"You've never fallen down the stream?" He asked and she huffed, not amused enough to laugh.
"I have, I almost drowned. Do you know who saved me?"
Trample nodded. It must have been Natt.
"I try to be like her, I want to protect her, I really do! But she just goes and does all this stupid shit that I can't keep up with!" Dag groaned, "while she was fighting alpha, I went to get Arla. Man, she was really beat up, her fur was all red and pink. I was going to tell someone else to get her to the herbalist so I could help Natt, but when I looked up I saw that she was in total control, and I could scent that Bärnt was on her way, so I brought Arla to the herbalist myself. I went to look for Natt but I couldn't find her anywhere until I went back to check on Arla!"
"You saved Arlas life," Trample said. He saw Dag was about to protest, so he gave her a stern look. Don't you dare. Dag sighed.
"Well, someone had to," she joked, but Trample knew it was true.
"Natts eye..?" Trample didn't know how to ask.
"It's really bad. I don't know when it happened, but it was alpha who did it," Dag admitted and looked at him intently. Trample shook his head and Dag seemed concerned, "tell me what youre thinking."
"Honestly, I want to rip his throat open and watch him bleed out," Trample admitted after peering into the cave to check that Natt was still sleeping. He didn't want her to hear that.
"I get that. But he's old, and Natt has forgiven him."
"What?" Trample got up, "she has barely had time to be awake, and she has already forgiven him? That's bullshit, she must've been delusional."
It was Dags turn to shake her head. Trample gritted his teeth and then covered his face with his paw.
"Fuck."
-
He dipped his paw in the dark paint and smeared it on the wall, blending it with the lighter paint.
"I dunno, Dag. Can we talk about something else?" He had been visited by Dag, like every day, but today she was insistent to talk about Natt, who had been avoiding him for weeks.
"Fine." Dag said shortly. Trample sighed in relief, and continued painting, "why don't you ever attend my parties?"
Trample rolled his eyes while putting in the last touch of dark in the fur of the wolf painted on the rock. He rinsed his paw in a puddle of water, then dipped his claws in the light fur. Time for highlights.
"The alpha doesn't want me there," it felt weird calling Natt the alpha, but that's what she was.
"She does!"
"Change the subject please," he groaned.
"Sorry! I just want you to accompany me to the party, alright?"
And so, that evening there was indeed a party, and Trample attended. He couldn't let Dag down. The new alphas area was beautiful, lit by lanterns and the fire to the northern side, and of course the moon hanging above them. The pond he had dug for the alpha as a gift was also decorated with lanterns around it, and flower petals floating in it. The area was filled with wolves, all of them were adults, some were in heat and all of them were acting frisky. So that's the kind of party they had been having here, huh. Dags brothers were putting on a performance, and the females were swooning, of course. Some wolves apporached Trample to talk or dance, too. He quite enjoyed it, but he kept glancing up toward the alphas hill, hoping to see her face.
About halfway into the party, Dag came up to him and got really close. At first, Trample was confused, thinking she was making a move on him, but then he noticed her pressing her body to his side and peeking out to the other side of him. She was hiding. Trample looked over. Ever since Dag had become the Beta of the pack, she had become a real tough wolf, determined to protect her sister at all cost. Trample hadn't seen her scared ever since that day after the incident. Trample tried to look casual while whispering to Dag.
"What are you hiding from?" He couldn't tell, there were many possibe wolves.
"The male over there, um, by the female with the blue yes? By, by the tree?" Dag said while she pulled on him to get them further away without revealing her. Trample looked over. It was an older male, not from this pack but surely he lived somewhere near.
"Why are you hiding?" He whispered and looked down at her. She avoided eye contact and seemed to only be able to let out a careful whine, "Dag, I need you to answer this. Is it serious?"
Dag nodded. She seemed to panic as he left her side, but he knew she would be fine. Trample walked staight up to the male, through the crowd.
"Excuse me, miss," he nodded at the female he had been flirting with, then he grabbed onto the males neck and dragged him out the entrance. The male was kicking and screaming, but he wasn't very strong or heavy. Dag pushed him out toward the dark forest. The male had questions, such as "whats this about", "who do you think you are", "do you wand your ass kicked", but Trample answered none of them.
"Get the hell out. You know what you did, and so do I," Trample lied, but he stood tall and stared down the male, who muttered and turned around to leave. Trample went back in and was tackled by Dag. Her tail was wagging and she was smiling as she embraced him.
"Thank you, I owe you," she said and gave him a friendly kiss on the cheek. Trample nodded and smiled back. No one had paid attention to the commotion. Trample cast a glance up to the hill. Even if her eyes had been peering at him, he would never see it, they would be disguised by the dark.
-
"Is it that bad?" Trample sighed as Natt was struggling to find a way out of the pit they had fallen in. One of the guards was on his way to get help, while Natt had instructed the other guards to continue searching for the missing pup. Natt just scoffed at him. Trample leaned bad against the smow covered rock to rest, but it was hard being confined to such a small space together with Natt. He hadn't talked to her in years. Her claws grasped at the rock as she once again failed at her attempt to climb the wall.
"It's not working, could you just chill?" Trample groaned.
"Oh sorry for trying to get back to looking for a helpless puppy!"
"I know that's not why," he muttered as a response.
"Excuse me?" Natt stopped her climbing and stared at him.
"You just don't want to be here with me."
"That's not true," Natt hissed and turned around, and she stressed her statement again, "it's not."
"You've been avoiding me."
"I have been busy! Alphas don't have time for silly romance!"
"Natt for fucks sake!" Trample felt his patience leave his body, "you think I don't know about your escapades?"
"I don't do that anymore," Natt growled.
"Ah of course, after you fucking had pups with someone else," Trample rolled his eyes.
"Fine, I have been avoiding you, and when we get out of this, I never want to see you again," Natt hissed. There was a long silence. Trample let the words hurt him thoroughly while he listened to the wind. But he knew something in his heart.
"Is that true?" He asked and Natt looked away, "you never want to see me again?"
Natt huffed and nodded.
"You never want to hear my voice again?" Trample asked.
"No."
Trample shook his head at her answer. Suddenly a yip came out of Natts mouth as she started tumbling down the hill. The cliff had crumbled under her feet. Trample was right there with her, he tried to use his claws to slow the fall and to catch her from falling further, but the cliffside was too steep and the both of them fell all the way to the river.
It was hard to hold on to Natts skin while his lungs were trying to expel water, but he managed to get her up on a log that was stuck to the rocks covering the shore. Trample held onto the log with his paws and coughed.
"Natt?" He wanted to know if she was conscious, and she seemed to spring to life at this. While Trample kept coughing, he felt the skin on his neck grabbed and he was pulled up on the log, and then Natt pulled him up on her own back. He tried to protest, but his throat was busy with the coughing, and trying to get off would definitely cause them both to fall off the log and back into the river. Natt was steady on her paws as she moved along the log and reached the rocky shore, where Trample finally made en effort to not allow her to burden herself with his weight anymore.
"Fuck," he heard Natt exclaim, and he looked up to see what she was worried about. The sun was setting, "let's hurry."
"We're not getting back home before dark," Trample knew finding a way over the river would be hard, "do you know where we are?"
"It looks like we're on one of the islands," Natt gestured to all the rocks making up the shore.
"We'd have to find a way across the river to the south side, and then go back to the central island so we can get over to Sinewy," Trample said, "it's better if we do that in the daylight."
"Fine," Natt huffed, "I'm going to get us some food before sunfall."
She left in a hurry. Trample sighed. He would've wanted to help her find food, but she was too stubborn, he knew there was no point in following her. He got off of the shore and started assembling firewood from the forested part of the island.
