Charcoal had always been distant and quiet. He wasn't against making friends, but he was also content with spending his time with pups, rather than older wolves. He isn't sure when or how Rose wormed her way into his heart.


History

Charcoal was born to Jet and Opal alongside his brothers Fire and Ash. Charcoal had always been quiet, a bit of a loner. He preferred to watch his littermates get into trouble rather than participating. Despite that, Ash and Fire didn't stop trying to convince Charcoal to have some fun with them. Though, this never worked much to his brother's annoyance.

While his brothers began to spend more time exploring the territory or practicing hunting as they got older, Charcoal just stuck to the home base. When Lapis was taken into the pack, Charcoal found himself helping the older wolves to take care of her. Once an adolescent, he realized the life of a pupsitter was what he wanted.

Fire was annoyed by both of his brothers choosing different roles than him, especially Ash. Charcoal had to deal with Fire's complaints a lot during his apprenticeship. It wasn't that bad though; he was used to his brothers whining.

Charcoal was a kind and patient pupsitter and did his role diligently. By the time he reached adulthood he was considered one of the pack's best pupsitters. He wasn't that close with his fellow pupsitters, but he didn't mind. He preferred to spend his time raising pups, then spending his time with older wolves.

Charcoal was intrigued when his parents came home one day with a young pup. They said they had found the pup living with Lillemor and that his name was Coral. In all honesty, Charcoal was excited to have a little brother and was even more excited by the idea of helping to raise the pup. While Coral was certainly a pawful, enjoying running off and sneaking around, Charcoal just found this endearing. It reminded him of Fire and Ash from when they were pups.

Charcoal had never thought of himself as the type to find a mate or have pups. That was until he met Swan. She was a little over a year younger than him; he remembered her being a pup during his apprenticeship. He never spent much time with her or her littermates. One of Swan's brothers had become a pupsitter, which resulted in Swan spending a lot of time around the pupsitter's. Charcoal had been distant at first, but somehow Swan managed to worm her way into his life. When she eventually asked him to be her mate? How could he refuse.

The two eventually decided to have pups of their own, being blessed with a boy and a girl. While Swan continued her role as a hunter, Charcoal looked after the pups. Charcoal couldn't deny how much they reminded him of Swan, both so confident and social. Fire and his mate also happened to have a litter of pups around the same time, Charcoal didn't realize how much joy he would get from seeing his pups grow alongside his brothers.

While both of his pups were still young, Charcoals mother sadly passed. Opal's death was the first in the packs lifetime and it hit everyone hard. Charcoal knew however that his pups needed him, they needed him to be strong.

As his pups grew, his daughter chose the life of a pupsitter, with his son becoming a hunter. Charcoal enjoys spending time with his daughter and getting to raise the packs future alongside her.

Jet's death was hard for everyone, but it hit his pups the worst. Losing both his leader and his father was difficult, Charcoal did his best to be strong, he was caring for a pup at the time and couldn't afford to crash. His family noticed his struggle and helped him out as best they could, Charcoal was forever grateful for his family.

Charcoal was more than happy to take on the role of Mentor when Silver passed on. He loved caring for and nurturing pups. This new job would be great for him.

On the 7th year and 6th month of his life, Charcoal made his way to the mountains summit. Steel, Fire and Ash keeping him company through most of the journey. Once at the top, looking out at the endless sky, Fire, Ash, and Charcoal were greeted by their parents, Opal and Jet, who gently guided them to the afterlife.
