Biography
Rune was found, and adopted, on May 24th, year 2.
One day, Badger had brought in this little pup. He says that he is the father and will take care of the little one with all his life, even growling when Soot got angry. Dove is rightly angry, though never takes it out on Rune and raises him like Quill. Badger also seems more interested in Rune than his own pack son.
June 1st, year 3.
"I try to be supportive of my brother, well, half-brother. Though I have a feeling he doesn't like me, every time I go to talk to him, he either says he has something to do and walks off, or just plain ignores me! I don't think I've done anything wrong... I just want to have a good relationship with my own blood relatives..."
June 23rd, year 3.
"I found this little cutie out of her nest; I think she fell out. I couldn't reach the nest due to it being too high. Thankfully, Sulfur will teach me how to raise her, I think she wouldn't make it if not... hmmm, her name will be... Twig!"
July 1st, year 4.
"I just can't believe it. First, my half-brother leaves because of the sickness and now Soot is dead! The only good thing happening to me right now is that Mauna had a pup, he isn't mine biologically, but I still love him."
July 19th, year 5.
Rune heard Mauna yowl on the far side of camp, turning his head fast, he ran toward the sound. "MAUNA!!" He screamed as he saw more wolves, most had the same scent as the four original trespassers. Two wolves were batting Mauna, nipping at her sides as she was crying. Rune charged forward and ran into one of the wolves, a broad-shouldered she-wolf. The second wolf, a lanky male, bit into Rune's neck, trying to drag him down.
"Mauna, get to the Field Sparrow Nest!" Rune yelled to his mate, who nodded as she ran to the burrow. Who turned immediately, running as tears started to form. Rune sighed to himself in relief, if this is my last battle, at least I know that Mauna will be safe... he thought to himself. The sudden feeling of teeth digging into his face made him snarl, quickly digging his teeth into the skinny male's throat, making said male let go of Rune's face, falling down with blood pouring out of the wound Rune had caused.
The she-wolf stared at him with wide eyes, she gulped before running away, out of Rune's sight, which was half covered, or so he thought. He had collapsed, later waking up to Emery telling him that he could've died from blood loss if Feldspar hadn't gotten him in time. Rune had spent days in the Alder Flycatcher's Grove, it had taken a while for him to get used to only seeing half of his vision, but he was just thankful Mauna had survived the attack, though the pups she was carrying miscarried from the high stress she had felt the day of the battle... the Crackling Tides Battle as Emery likes to refer it...
July 21st, year 5.
"I- I've been demoted to no role... I don't know what to do besides take care of Mauna the best I can, but now without a role... I can't do anything to try and get us out of the Lowland Akalat Guild. Curse you Peak Watchers... and everything you stand for..." [Scout role is no more for Rune]
August 30th, year 6.
"She's here! A healthy little girl.... she's so precious in this world... my little Glade. I'll make sure nothing happens to you, no matter what anyone thinks..."
September 3rd, year 6.
"They're gone... Mauna and Glade are gone!! That devil she-wolf... she's caused nothing but pain and misery since the last year... just because I didn't fully join her side. I should have, but Mauna said to me that I should be true to myself, even if I'm supposed to protect my family. Oh Mauna, Glade... I've failed you both.... I should have done better... I should have done better...."
Joined the (formerly named) Daylight Sun - September 4th, year 6.
Rune trudged forwards. An aching, dull pain was all he felt. He couldn't remember the last time he didn't feel this way. All his life, he became familiar with this kind of hurt. It was stronger, though, full of guilt. An agonizing pang of guilt deep in his chest that he knew wouldn't go away. His mind didn't help, either. It only taunted him with his failings. "Mauna, Glade, how could you forgive me?" He should have done more. "Oh, Mauna… I'm so sorry." But he didn't, and now Rune has to live with all he couldn't do, and everything he can't take back.
Rune's paws slipped on the loose rocks, snapping him back to awareness. This place wasn't promising. He had scanned his surroundings numerous times. It was rocky, cold, and full of nothing. But what Rune heard of this place convinced him otherwise. Through the Grasslands, Coniferous Forest, and Taiga, he stumbled upon wolves who told him of packs willing to take in drifters. Only one stood out among the rest. Nestled beside the ocean, in the furthest corners of the north, far away from the Prairie, resided a kindhearted pack, the Daylight Sun. That sounded promising. The only problem now was trying to find it.
Thankfully, Rune knew of vague directions. They weren't the best per se, but they were something. All he supposedly had to do was find the coast and head east. Simple. He would run into the pack eventually. Rune just needed to make sure it was soon. Time was running out. Going weeks with only small meals here and there isn't sustainable. Twig was happy with the butterflies, but Rune couldn't keep chasing down hares. It was wearing his already exhausted body down.
What felt like hours later, the faint scent of salt suddenly reached his nose. His desperate search finally paid off. Rune pushed forwards, forcing his tired limbs to go faster. Up and over the hill was when he finally caught sight of what he was looking for. In the distance, icy waves crashed along a pebbled shore with icebergs floating effortlessly on top of them.
A newfound spark of hope shot through Rune. It was all he needed to make a break for the shoreline. Twig chirped in alarm, quickly tightening her grip on Rune's fur as he ran. The two made it down to the salty water in mere moments. After everything he'd been through, this was the most he's felt relieved in a while. Rune knew he was getting closer to the pack he'd been searching for, he just needed to follow along the coast, then everything would be okay.
Turning toward the east, Rune went onward, just as he had been doing his whole life. All he could do was face each new obstacle that got in his way. There were never ways around it. Rune wished for all his being that this didn't have to happen. All he wanted was to wake up beside Mauna again, to see her curled up around their pup, and to see her smile at him. But those days were gone now. They were torn away from him, just like how Flare had torn their pack apart. Mauna would want him to keep going, though. She would never let him give up. So Rune followed the coastline. He would do this for her.
October 14, year 14.
Rune has been formerly accepted among the ranks of the caregivers. Despite being an outsider, he has proven his worth to help be the voice of the pack and take care of its members. This placement is quite an honour.
November 8, year 15.
At age 5, Rune retired and became a mentor.
Headcanon by [[Ringtail_Pterosaur]] #42098
Rune has quite a soft spot for birds ever since he found the first 'twig'. He's technically gone through at least 3 separate 'twigs' but refuses to admit that they're different birds, claiming that twig is just exceptionally long-lived and that it just got 'lost' whenever the previous twig passed.
February 14, year 17.
Your wolf, Rune, has lived his life to the fullest and is now up in the heavens!
