Second generation Thorns Bloodline
It'd been months since Maia disappeared.
Celaeno was more sullen these days, prone to sulking and being distracted. Her eyes were dark and lifeless, as if haunted
Many may think that death is a tragedy, but for the Brotherhood it is a blessing. A disappearance, however, is a tragedy. To not know if a soul is trapped or if it has moved on without ceremony and is lost forever as a lone traveler in the Void. It is haunting.
Celaeno was haunted.
Haunted not by spirits, but by nightmares. Nightmares of an alien world, similar to her own but altered. Of monsters and chaos and her little sister trapped in the midst of it, unable to pass on and unable to return to the living.
As Celaeno grew older, she discovered that this world was real.
The Night Mother told stories of it, a place called the Dreamlands, a parallel universe that could only be accessed when the veil grew thin at the passing of seasons.
The Night Mother had been there. She'd brought back trophies from the monsters she'd slain - huge fangs, talons, and eternally-beating hearts.
Celaeno had watched silently, listening and remembering every word spoken. In her mind, everything was clicking into place. Her sister must have entered the Dreamlands on the night she vanished. Her sister might still be alive. And Celaeno was going to find her.
On the first morning of winter, Celaeno opened her eyes to a world she'd seen before. The Dreamlands spanned out before her, terrifyingly real. She shook the cold from her bones and set off.
She had her mission, and she was dead set on completing it.
