Biography
ONLY A ROUGH DRAFT FOR A COMIC(Feathers of Flight)
Wild'paw was originally first in line to be the next leader, but then Glass'paw joined the pack. She was skilled, clever, and not too young. She was the perfect fit. She soon replaced Wild'paw as the new heir. Wild'paw grew a hatred and resentment for her because of this. She was now first in line and was able to go scout, hunt, and forage. Wild'paw would spread rumors about her in the pack. Soon she was getting the cold shoulder from every adol. She accepted that they didn't like her and she was considered the outcast. It didn't stop her tho, giving her more time to practice her skill for the future. She still had two close friends, Lilac'paw and Mottle'paw.
One day, Yumi had allowed Wild'paw to join in on the hunts as he used to when he was first in line. Glass'paw wasn't excited about this at all. She walked to Yumi and asked to talk in private.
"Yumi, please don't make me hunt with Wild'paw," She begged.
"Glass'paw. You need to understand that Wild'paw misses hunting and he hasn't been happy the past few days. This will cheer him up," Yumi explained.
Glass'paw sighed, "Ok. If that is what you want."
"Thank you," Yumi licked Glass'paw's ear.
As Yumi walked away, Glass'paw turned to see Wild'paw glaring at her. His eyes looked like blue fire burning into her soul. She quickly looked away, her heart pounding. Wild'paw smirked as he walked toward the hunting party. Glass'paw thought she was going to collapse after looking at his eyes. Why were his eyes scaring me? She tried to forget about it as Shep trotted to her.
"Glass'paw, the party is ready to go," Shep announced.
Glass'paw nodded and followed Shep to the others. She caught a quick glance at Wild'paw and quickly jumped to the other side of Shep. She had always seen Shep as a brother because Marble'stone took in as his own daughter. Her Biological father had left before she was born. He glanced down at Glass'paw with a sympathetic experession. They looked up as Swift'wind started speaking.
"Today we are going along a large trail! Be ready when I give the signal to start attacking." She yelled. "Blackout, move out!"
As they reached the the end of the trail, they got into their positions as Swift'wind instructed. Glass'paw peeked through the tall grass. Bovine! Such a big beast, but a great meal for the pack. Everyone waited for Swift'winds signal. Wild'paw suddenly shot through the grass, leaping high into the air onto the Bovine's back. Swift'wind gave a growl of annoyance before giving the signal to chase after him. The Bovine was kicking everywhere, making it hard to get a chance to jump on it's back. Shep looked at Glass'paw.
"Follow my lead," He spoke quickly.
Glass'paw nodded and followed him to the Bovine's side.
"Stay toward the Bovine's side when they kick. A kick from them will send you to the herbalist for a few days," Shep whispered into her ear.
Glass'paw watched as Shep eyed the Bovine's side. He lunged toward the bovine and onto his back with Wild'paw. Glass'paw quickly followed. She lunged onto the Bovine's back as well. Shep looked at her and pointed to it's neck.
"Bite its neck! Tear it! Now!" Shep yowled.
Glass'paw looked at the Bovine's neck and slid to its neck. She bit down on the side of its neck, tearing the skin. In the corner of Glass'paw's eye, she saw Wild'paw lunged at her, knocking her off the Bovine. They both went tumbling down, landing in a heap of grass. The Bovine collapsed to the ground as blood spilled from its neck. Glass'paw sat up and spit the skin out of her mouth.
"What was that for?!" She growled.
"You were in my way! Plus, I helped you." He claimed. "You couldn't tear the Bovine's skin in time. So, I pushed you to make you tear it better."
"Really, that's your excuse?!" Glass'paw yelled.
"Knock it off, both of you!" Swift'wind lectured. "That is no way to treat a packmate. What matters is that we got the food." She glared at Wild'paw, "And don't go ahead without my signal again."
"Great, you got me in trouble." Wild'paw grumbled at Glass'paw as he stomped off.
When the Hunting party got back home they were greeted with congratulations on the kill. As everyone settled down to eat, Glass'paw noticed Wild'paw blabbing off about how he leaped onto the Bovine bravely to the other adols. She rolled her eyes and looked away. Show off. Glass'paw quickly finished her meal and plopped down onto her nest to sleep. It had been a long day for her. She slowly drifted off to sleep, dreaming of a place better than here.
It had been a few days since the hunting incident. Glass'paw had avoided Wild'paw as best she could. Today was a special day for her and another wolf named Mottle'paw. They would recieve their full name today and tomorrow they would be considered full grown. Glass'paw was in her nest, clawing at her nest nervously. Mottle'paw popped her head in Glass'paw's den.
"The ceremony is about to start," mottle'paw spoke before heading back to the clearing.
Glass'paw sat up and walked into the clearing as Yumi spoke.
"All wolves head to the clearing for a meeting!" She howled. "Today, we have 2 paws that are being made a claw. Mottle'paw, do you accept the responsibility of providing to the pack?"
"I do," Mottle'paw stood up.
"Then your full name is Mottle'fur and your responsibility is to provide puppies for this clan." Yumi spoke again as Mottle'fur sat down, "Glass'paw, do you accept the responsibility of providing to the pack?"
"I do," Glass'paw looked at her paws nervously.
Yumi seemed to have noticed then said, " Then your full name is Glass'heart and you will be the next leader of the pack of Flower Plains."
The pack started chanting their new names, "Mottle'fur, Mottle'fur, Glass'heart, Glass'heart."
When the crowd silenced. Yumi started speaking again, "Tonight is the star meeting. I will be taking Shep, Marble'stone, Hawk'storm, Lilac, Mottle'fur, Glass'heart, Wild'paw, and Lilac'paw. Meeting dismissed."
The pack began to disperse back to their daily life. Newly named wolves go to the den for the whole day and an apprentice will bring them some food. Glass'heart started heading toward her den when Wild'paw stopped infront of her. He drew his head closer to her ear.
"Don't think your better than me just because you have a full name. You are and always will be lower than me," He whispered before trotting off to his own den.
Glass'heart sighed deeply before laying in her nest. Why did he always have to say those things to her? She awoke to Lilac'paw prodding her side.
"I have some food for you," She nudged the piece of meat toward her nest.
"Thank you Lilac'paw," Glass'heart blinked greatfully.
Lilac nodded backed and turned out if the den to resume her work with herbs. Glass'heart sniffed the meat and turned to the other side of her nest. She wasn't very hungry. She awoke again to the sound of Mottle'fur.
"Glass'heart, I need your help. I am in love with a wolf from another pack," Mottle'fur explained. "I had been sneaking off to see him. I hadn't been feeling well so, I went to the herbalist. S-She told me that I was expecting. I-I don't know what to d-do. I'm scared."
Mottle'fur was pregnant?! How long had she been sneaking out? Glass'heart walked to Mottle'fur's side and started soothing her.
"Shhhh. It's ok. You will be fine. But, now you have to think about your puppies." Glass'heart paused and asked, " Which pack is the father in?"
Mottle'fur looked at her in distress. "His name is Varseff and his pack is the Pack of Moonlit Guardians."
"If he is from that pack then you should go join that pack," Glass'heart suggested. "Yumi will understand. Come on, let's go talk to her."
Mottle'fur and Glass'heart went to Yumi's den and explained the situation.
Yumi nodded and said, "I think it is best if you go and raise the puppies with the father.. You may leave after the Full Moon Meeting."
Mottle'fur nodded and walked into the clearing with her tail dragging on the ground.
"I am going announce that we are leaving. At the Star meeting I will announce you to be the new leader of the pack. I will retire as soon as we get back. From tonight you will be the new leader of my pack. I trust that you will do a great job." Yumi approved before leaving her den.
Glass'heart had followed and waited by the exit with Shep, Mottle'fur, Lilac, and Lilac'paw. The rest of the wolves had joined shortly before leaving for the Star meeting. They had gotten to Sunset Island where this special meeting was held. There was already 3 packs waiting for us. We mingled in the crowd and greeted the other wolves. Soon the final pack had made it. All together there were 5 packs gathered from the surrounding areas. These 5 packs had been allies for years. Glass'heart found it interesting to look at the different pelt colors from each pack. She trotted to join Mottle'fur who was laying down at the back of the crowd by some ferns.
"Hey, how are you doing?" Glass'heart asked.
Mottle'fur looked up at her, "I'm doing ok. I am waiting for Varseff. He should be here any minute."
Glass'heart laid down next to Mottle'fur. "I hope you don't mind if I lay here with you."
Mottle'fur blinked at her. "Not at all."
A few minutes later a wolf with a dark pelt walked up to them. Mottle'fur looked nervous as he walked up.
"Hey Mottle, how are you?" The wolf asked.
"I'm doing ok, Varseff." She replied.
"I'm glad to hear that." He spoke as he came sit next to her. "Who is your friend?"
Glass'heart looked at at him. " I am Glass'heart. You must be Varseff. I've heard some things about you." She paused. "Oh, I forgot to mention congratulations."
Varseff tilted his herd. "Why are you congratulating me?"
Mottle'fur nudged him with her paw. "I'm expecting."
His eyes suddenly lit up with surprise, then filled with overflowing joy. "Oh, Mottle! I am so happy right now." He bent over and gave her licks on the ears.
Mottle'fur looked relieved to hear that.
"So, we talked to our leader and decided that it would be best if she joined your pack in order to raise your puppies." Glass'heart announced.
"Of course. She can go to my leader after the Star meeting." He told between licks.
It must be nice to have someone love like that.
"I'll go further to the front to see better." Glass'heart said to them before getting up.
She sat down a little ways up front, waiting for the meeting to start. Wild'paw had walked up to her. What does he want now?
Wild'paw chuckled, "It's funny. You are all alone with no one to talk to. I guess no one likes you, huh."
"Stop talking. You have bullied me ever since I joined. Tonight is the night you stop! I'm tired of you doing this!" Glass'heart growled at him.
Even though he was obviously bigger than her, he acknowledged what she had said and sat a little ways away from her in silence, thinking. Finally he gives me space. Her happiness didn't last long as another wolf came to her.
"Hello love, what might your name be?" The light brown wolf asked with his chest puffed toward her.
"My name is Glass'heart." She told him as she backed away.
Wild'paw's eyes lit up and smirked at one of his thoughts, like always.
He came closer, "Well Glass'heart, what do you say we head around back and-"
Wild'paw leaped between Glass'heart and the wolf, his eyes blazing and his hackles lifted. "Go away before I make you." He snapped.
The wolf looked frustrated but didn't say anything because of Wild'paw's size and walked away.
"T-Thank you, Wild'paw." Glass'heart felt relieved.
His hackles lowered and he turned to her. "It was nothing, I just don't like wolves like that." Wild'paw changed the subject. "The meeting is starting."
Each lead wolf sat on Eagle rock with their beta right below them. Each Leader announced what had happened in their pack and how prey was running. Finally, it was Yumi's turn.
"Prey is a little scarce but, we are managing. We had taken in four new pups and they are doing well in training. Ghost had passed away a few weeks ago. Lastly, I am growing old and I am ready to announce my retirement." She explained while some wolves murmured to themselves. "Glass'heart will be taking my place as leader. She is trained to the highest and I believe she is ready. That is all."
Each leader went to see their betas and gather their pack. Mottle'fur was with Varseff, talking to his alpha. Mottle'fur walked up to Glass'heart.
"The leader of the Pack of Moonlit Guardians has agreed to letting me join. I've come to say goodbye."
"Mottle'fur, I will miss you." Glass'heart forced as she felt her heart rip a little.
"I will miss you too. You will always be my best friend. Farewell.." She whispered as she trotted away.
Back at the camp, Glass'heart would become the new leader in four days. She wasn't used to every wolf acting as if she was royalty. She found it kinda weird that they were so polite to her all of a sudden. Well, almost every wolf. Wild'paw and his friend, Marble'paw. She was always near him the second she joined the pack. Wild'paw was only 10 months old yet Yumi had spoke about giving him his full name before she retired. She declared that on her last day as leader, she would give him his name. She didn't care if he still had a month or two to become a year old. In her eyes, Wild'paw was old enough to receive his name. I didn't think he was. He was still immature, rushing to kill his prey just like with the Bovine. Glass'heart sighed, there was nothing she could do to help it. Yumi had made up her mind.
Four days had passed and this was Yumi's last day as leader. She called for a pack meeting and everyone hadn't expected Wild'paw to get his full name. Everyone chanted his name.
"Wild'fang, Wild'fang, Wild'fang!"
When the ceremony was over Yumi had reminded everyone that tomorrow, Glass'heart was going to be in charge. To celebrate her last day as leader, the pack had a feast and wine that the herbalist had made. It was made so it wouldn't harm you but, sadly, you could still get drunk. Glass'heart didn't feel hungry, only because a piece of her felt empty. She pictured Mottle'fur laying next to her, making jokes and offering her food. Glass'heart missed her dearly. Her thoughts were interrupted as Wild'fang spoke to her.
"Hey Glass'heart, can I sit with you?" He asked with a glint of mischief in his eyes.
"sure." Glass'heart answered.
He sat down where Mottle'fur used to lay and proceeded to start talking.
"Look. I'm sorry for being a jerk. I was just mad that you had taken my place. I was looking forward to being a leader." He finished.
Glass'heart looked up in surprise. "I-I forgive you." She paused then chuckled, "When I become leader I will make you the leader of the hunting party!"
Wild'fang laughed at the thought of it. "I would like that."
They looked at each other for a few seconds, then looked away. Wild'fang started making small talk with her while they shared some Bovine. Later, Marble'paw walked up to them with a glare in her eyes.
"Wild'fang! There you are. I was looking for you. You weren't with the others." She turned and glared at Glass'heart. "Why are you hanging out with her?"
"Cause' I can. You didn't need to look for me. I have my full name now, I'm not a paw anymore." Wild'fang remarked.
"Oh well, Can I stay with you? The other adols are being lame." Marble'paw spoke.
"Sure you can." He answered.
She laid down next to Wild'fang, rather close. Wild'fang shifted his body as their pelts touched. Glass'heart finished her Bovine and sat up.
"I'm going get a drink." She told Wild'fang as she walked away.
Lilac'paw had walked up to her and offered some wine. Glass'heart agreed to drink some with her. Later, she and Lilac'paw were dragging around the herbalist den, looking at herbs.
"And this one is-.. uhhh... Kava." She said sluggishly.
"I'm gonna get some more wine.. It taste good. Bye-e..." Glass'heart stuttered.
Back at the wine, Wild'fang was drinking. Glass'heart walked up to him.
"Why are you drinking..?" She asked.
"Marble'paw won't leave me alone. I needed to get away from her.." He trailed off, Then he looked at Glass'heart. "Can I stay.. in your den.. tonight?"
"Ya. I don't mind.. it." She curled her tail.
"Thanks." Wild'fang looked relieved.
Both wolves went into Glass'heart's den.
Glass'heart settled into her nest and Wild'fang followed her. They yawned as sleep started to catch up to them. The next morning Glass'heart awoke drowsily. She was wide-eyed as she saw Wild'fang curled up next to her. What happened last night? She stared at him for a little longer, then nudged Wild'fang.
"Let me sleep." He whined like a pup and shifted.
"Wild'fang get up! You slept in my nest!" She whispered loudly.
"Wait, what?! He quickly got up and moved out of the nest, His fur ruffled.
"You should go to your den before anyone gets up." Glass'heart advised.
"Your right." He slid his head out of the den, then pulled it back in. "Marble'paw is in the clearing!"
"Seriously?!" Glass'heart sighed. She got up and groomed her ruffled fur. "I'll go distract her for you."
She walked out of the den and greeted Marble'paw. Marble'paw asked where Wild'fang was, explaining she lost him last night.
"Maybe, he is getting a drink. Let's go see." Glass'heart suggested.
Marble'paw nodded and turned toward the water pool. Glass'heart gave the signal as soon as she turned the corner. Wild'fang quickly trotted to his den and Glass'heart did the same. She settled down in her nest again. A tuft of Wild'fang's fur was in the nest. She picked it up and disposed of it in the bushes. She layed back down and drifted to sleep, into an empty darkness.
A few days had passed and the pack was doing well. Prey was thriving in fall. Amusement was ok. Wild'fang is training with his future Huntmates. Their hunting party is called Providers. Glass'heart was content with how the pack was doing. She layed on top of her stone den, overviewing pack life. Marble'stone walked up to her and sat next to her. He looked over the clearing into the distance.
"Is Yumi is watching over us?" He looked at Glass'heart with grief in his eyes.
Glass'heart sat up and pressed against him. "Yes she is and she is happy our pack is thriving."
"Does she miss me?" Marble'stone paused. "Is she doing well?" He asked more urgently.
"She misses you a lot. She is at peace with herself.. Yumi is waiting for you." Glass'heart comforted.
"Thank you, Glass'heart." He looked up into the stars. "I will join her soon. I am getting to that age. you should start looking for a new beta to help lead the pack."
"I know. I don't think I'm ready to see you go yet. I just lost Yumi and Mottle'fur." She backed away and layed down.
"I lost Yumi too. I was not just her beta but, mate." Marble'stone reminded.
Glass'heart thought for a second. "Maybe if I get a mate before you pass, you could meet him. And I could make him my beta!" She lightened the mood.
"That would be nice.." He trailed off.
"Marble'stone?" He dropped to the ground. "Marble'stone?!" She shrieked.
In the clearing Marble'stone laid. Glass'heart whimpered next to him as Shep comforted her. Wild'fang sat nearby looking away from Marble'stone's body. Hawk'storm laid next to his head, licking it in grief. Shep's eyes were full of grief. The rest of the pack sat around them in silence with their heads down. When Glass'heart was ready, She began the howls of guidance. The rest of the pack joined in the howl. Once the howl of guidance was over, all wolves headed to their den except the leader and relatives. Wild'fang stayed too. Switches to Wild'fang's point of view in his biography.
