Biography
"Don't leave me yet, Mother," Jahzie pleads in a small voice. "I'm not ready yet."
"I am," Shian replies with an easy smile, "I have to go, my son. It is my time and I'm okay with that... The fates have given me a life full of pleasantries to look back on."
Jahzie isn't so easily convinced. "I've got a family now. You hardly got to meet Dionysus."
"Nonsense, she's nearly a full six months old. I've seen enough of that little warrior to know that she will make you proud as her father," Shian nudges him, trying to put a smile on his face. It works; Jahzie's sorrow subsides for a moment to make way for the unmistakable delight at the thought of his daughter and what she may accomplish. "I've done the one thing I needed to do in this life, boy. I've raised a pup who has made me proud."
She rests her head on her paws; fatigue is tugging at her eyelids. She is much too old for any of this now, surely she will be walking among the stars soon, watching her family from above.
"Rest now, Mother," murmurs Jahzie, and she feels his nose on her forehead. "And know that I love you and I'm thankful for everything you've taught me."
Shian nods with a fond expression on her face, though her eyes are still closed. She doubts they will ever open again, but that is okay, for the last thing she will remember seeing before she leaves for the night sky is her son's proud face as he thinks about his beloved child, and she knows the rest will be alright.
