Puppy Days

苔原 Kokehara pounced on the blue jay after he successfully lured it to come closer. Catching was more important than chasing when it came to birds, and it was the best reward for such a long wait. Today was his last pup lesson, tomorrow would start his apprenticeship as a real hunter so he had wanted to prove that he could already catch prey. As he picked up his catch, a feather lightly drifted down to lay beside him. Having jumped up to prevent the blue jay from taking flight, he figured it must've fallen out of the bird.

銀銭花 Ginsenka padded up to him looking at the blue jay hanging in his jaws and said, "wow, great catch 苔原 Kokehara! You're going to make a great hunter. And look!" 銀銭花 Ginsenka bent to pick up the fallen feather, "They say that a feather fallen is a hunter calling, but a feather plucked is no luck. Here, keep it with you, it's good luck." And with that she stuck it behind his left ear and gave him a quick lick and nuzzle on his cheek before trotting off, no doubt to go check on 朱銀 Shugin's progress. 朱銀 Shugin was 銀銭花 Ginsenka's and 赤月 Akatsuki's only pup, and more importantly the leaders line.

They said that every leader that ever was in the JuniperWake could be found in 朱銀 Shugin's blood. They were kin, his mother 芝桜 Shibazakura was actually sister to ローズ Rozu, 銀銭花 Ginsenka's mother, making 銀銭花 Ginsenka his cousin and 朱銀 Shugin his second cousin, but neither of the two families had been very close. But what 銀銭花 Ginsenka had just done made his heart swell with pride and joy, "I will keep this feather forever" he whispered before bounding off towards the camp, his blue jay swinging lightly in his jaws.
