Llywelyn was born in early winter to two of the pack's chasers, Cambig and Bwncath. The amalgamation of several generations of accomplished chasers, there were high expectations for the young pup. His aspirations lay elsewhere though. Raised on tales of the pack's brave and powerful leaders of years gone by, Llywelyn wanted to be like them. He didn't want to chase, he wanted to lead. The adults humored him, finding his bold naivety endearing, but ultimately expected him to follow in his parent's footsteps.
Though an unexpected twist of fate, however, the pack heir Winifred renounced her title to work exclusively as a scout, leaving Eos scrambling to find a replacement. It didn't take much convincing on his part for Llywelyn to be placed under her direct mentorship. This left him in a somewhat unconventional position. Heirs weren't typically chosen and trained from puphood, but times were desperate. Nonetheless, Llywelyn was overjoyed with his good fortune, and doubled down on his studies. He spent much of his time with Eos, learning the ins and outs of pack management, the pack's history and traditions, their relationships with their neighbours. It was a lot to learn - but he revelled in it, excelled in it. And despite the odd circumstances, no one could argue that he wasn't perfect for it.
Winifred's renouncement was only the start of a unfortunate series of events. In early winter 33 the pack's newly established hunting party, Helfa Coed, came into difficulty. The hunters were severly injured, with Thornfoot being left unable to hunt and Nesta loosing her life. This alone would've been devastating, but it inspired a chain of departures from the younger wolves, with two other hunters, a scout, and a herbalist leaving, all while the old guard were gradually passing away. Though Eos scrambled to try and recover some semblance of normality, it was in vain, with few wolves being willing to join such a dire pack. Eos passed away not even a year later, leaving the scraps which remained of the pack in the sole care of a young Llywelyn.
Llywelyn didn't see much sense in trying to rebuild. Between the few that remained and with the support of a handful of outskirters, the small pack was still able to comfortably support itself. Growing up, Llywelyn had been inspired of tales of grandeur, of a large, powerful, influential pack. In different circumstances, he had no doubt that he might still aspire to it. The desperate struggle of the past year had left him disillusioned though. It would be wiser, he thought, to support which remained for as long as it lasted, and to allow it to die peacefully, rather than to desperately hang on and die in a frenzy like the old guard had done.
The start of his leadership came a little heavy handed. He was particularly harsh with the pack, offering severe and extensive criticism. Most chose to grit their teeth and bare it, not willing to disrupt the pack any further. It came a step too far however, when he chastised the pack's guard and his close childhood friend, Cadarn. Though he's successfully defended the pack from an aggressor, the fight had been a difficult one. A more seasoned lead may have accepted this for the success that it was, but Llywelyn saw the wounds and only recognised it as a failure. He severely reprimanded Cadarn. He'd quickly came to regret it.
Heartbroken, Cadarn left the pack without a word. Llywelyn hadn't realised up until that point just how much he'd come to rely on Cadarn's companionship. As familiar as he was with the rest of the pack, he'd long sidelined those relationships in favour of Cadarn. And so he was left alone, leading a pack of familiar strangers with little experience and no emotional support. Being met with the consequences of his harsh management, Llywelyn softened his approach and started to be a little more forgiving with the pack.
Llywelyn worked closely with the pack to ensure all ran smoothly. He had high expectations of his pack members, which thanks to his support they were able to meet with little difficulty. Teyrnon continued to work as the sole scout, and Melynddu took over the herbalist duties. Addfwyn took command of a reformed Helfa Coed, supported by Trinket and Tashi, as well as outskirters Blueberry Pie and Sariah. Thornfoot retired to pupsitting alongside Aniara. Upon her return to the pack, Llywelyn recruited Tanwen as his second-in-command. Llywelyn trusted them all deeply, and they trusted him in turn. He came to rely especially on Tanwen and Addfwyn for advice and support.
Llywelyn is a rather small and lithe wolf, a relic of his chaser ancestry. Indeed, his speed and agility is near unparralleled. He has a stern, no-nonsense outlook, and always tells it as it is. He's not lacking in tact though - His words and actions are always chosen with great consideration.
