Ymir is one of Akani's daughters from an out-of-pack relationship. Her mother was elderly and near death when she contacted her father to ask him to welcome her into the pack before her departure.
Akani, at first, was unsure whether he wanted to accept the she-wolf's proposal, but after seeing his daughter, similar to him physically and with a self-centered and proud character, he had no more doubts.
Ymir soon became a scout because of her inexhaustible energy and eagerness to explore. She was also a good big sister to Aska and Rey.
