Buttershine was a keen little girl who was very proud to be the daughter of the Alpha. She got a little bit bossy with the other pups at times, but not in a mean way. She just wanted to be like her mom and take charge. Her pupsitter Greywing reminded her that she had a lot of time before she needed to be in charge of anything and she should just chill out for now. But chilling out didn't seem to be in Butter's nature and she would run to meet her mom at the edge of camp whenever she returned from exploring. Butter was also in the front row every time Pineshadow returned from scouting to act out her adventures. Pine came to expect her there and often played directly to her in her performances. To Butter, the old tales at storytime couldn't compete with what was going on that day.
At the Academy, Butter studied speed and agility to strengthen her weakest stats and she put great effort into it. Most of the Pack believed she did it to make her mother proud, but Butter had a secret that even Grey didn't know. Pine had taken her aside the day before her lessons began and told her that if she worked hard and learned well, she would take her on as her apprentice. Butter wanted that more than anything and so she threw herself into her lessons with gusto. The only other wolf who knew about this agreement was Butter's sister Peachflower, who promised to work hard too so they could be scouts together. When they were allowed to choose their last lesson, they chose Recognizing Danger, a particularly valuable skill for scouts away from home.
During her apprenticeship, Pine made good on her promise to make Butter her apprentice and most of the pack were surprised, since it was the general belief that Butter would be chosen as her mother's heir and scouts are rarely chosen. But Butter was adamant that this was what she wanted and she did well in her apprenticeship. Pine reported that Butter was becoming quite adept at tracking predators, shmoozing scouts of other packs, and finding hiding places quickly when the need arose. Alpha Dawnbreeze was very proud of both her daughters, especially Butter, and talked them up to anyone who would listen. Butter's drive to go after the future she wanted impressed everyone and her elders began to treat her with a kind of respect rarely given to such a young wolf. Pine was afraid that this attention would make Butter arrogant, but Butter just shrugged it off and kept on working hard to learn.
On her first birthday, Butter felt as if every dream she ever had was coming true at once. Tomorrow she would be a working scout with no mentor looking over her shoulder. She knew it would be a challenge at times, but she wasn't nervous at all. The best thing was that Peach seemed to be just as happy as they shared their first drinks together.
Now as an adult, Butter still loves her daily stories and she spends her days looking for them in every corner of the lands. She hasn't forgotten how much work it took to get here and every time she leaves home, she puffs up to think that she earned this life. When she's home, she loves to have a drink with her sister and everyone else. Hard work earns hard play, Butter likes to say, and she lives by that. Her laughter is always the loudest and her sleep the deepest.
