Peachflower was a trusting little girl who always seemed to know who to follow in any given situation. Peach didn't always say how she was feeling, but her elders learned to guess by who she was following. She stuck close to her pupsitter Greywing when she felt confident and secure. Her mom Alpha Dawnbreeze was the one at night and during pack gatherings, and also when she felt nervous or insecure. Her uncle Lightningleap the herbalist would be the one when she felt sick or something hurt. She might follow one of the hunters when she was hungry, one of the scouts when she was bored. But Grey noticed that Peach gravitated to her sister Buttershine during playtime. What exactly did that mean? When Grey asked her, Peach said she didn't know. It was a sisterly bond that didn't need explanation.
At the Academy, Peach was a good student in her speed and agility lessons. But her elders noticed that she was more interested in supporting her sister than preparing for her own future. Grey pulled her aside one night and told her that she and Butter wouldn't necessarily follow the same path in life and even if they did, she needed to be her own wolf and stand on her own. Peach listened to Grey's advice, but she knew that she and Butter would be bonded for life, scouts together, just like Pineshadow and Sparksong. Nobody else knew about the promise Pine had made to Butter, other than Peach, and she wasn't about to tell anyone. During their last lesson in Recognizing Danger, Peach and Butter held that secret close, as they held each other. The future was theirs to take.
During her apprenticeship, Peach was in for a rude awakening. While she was preparing to leave on her first outing with Sparksong, she watched her sister go off happily with Pine, without saying goodbye or even looking back. That hurt Peach deeply, but it only got worse when Spark explained that she and Butter would never be scouting together at all. Peach suddenly realized that the bond she believed she had with Butter wasn't what she thought it was. A terrible depression crashed over her and she dragged herself along behind Spark for the two days it took to complete their trip. She gave Butter the cold shoulder afterwards, but it didn't seem to matter. Peach felt left behind, forgotten. On her second trip, Spark knew what was going on and had some wisdom to share. She told Peach about her relationship with her brother Lightningleap, how they were pulled apart by their separate destinies but still found time to be best friends in between everything. Peach remembered Grey's advice about being her own wolf and resolved to train hard and be the best scout she could be. Butter was doing her best, so why shouldn't Peach do the same? They may never be as close as Peach wanted to be, but she needed to live her best life regardless.
On her first birthday, Peach felt so accomplished that it was like she was floating. And the best thing was that it had nothing to do with Butter. She had worked hard and become a good scout in her own right and when Spark wrapped the black cloak around her neck, she knew she had earned it fair and square. She shared her first drinks with her sister, but she knew that her future was hers alone.
Now as an adult, Peach still knows exactly who to follow, herself. She loves her sister very much and makes time to have a drink with her whenever they're home, but she always remembers to honor herself first. Never again will she define herself and her life by others. When she greets a scout from a neighboring pack or delivers a message to a distant ally, she's the one they see and thank for her kindness. Her travels take her far and wide, but Peach isn't the wild adventurer type. She prefers to stay out of trouble and take her work seriously. That's why Alpha Fogfrost trusts her to do the real grunt work of scouting, keeping in contact with other packs, and she reports to him without seeking attention with tale-bearing. She also likes to spend time with the Academy students when she's home. Her favorite advice to give them is to be true to themselves.
