Horseheart was a dedicated little boy who was always steadfast in his care for his family. If another pup got hurt during playtime, he insisted on going with them to the herbalist and sticking around to watch his uncle Lightningleap work. If another pup asked an interesting question, Horse always wanted to hear the answer too and wouldn't rest until he got it. His pupsitter Sandfur realized that Horse had a passion for learning and made sure he was listening whenever she explained something new to all the pups. But Horse's love of learning also made him stubborn and he would refuse to leave an interesting situation, even when he was told to for his own safety. His elders said that he lived up to his name because "horse won't be moved for anything". He never meant to cause trouble though and was a sweetheart most of the time.
At the Academy, Horse studied speed, wisdom, and smarts with his brothers to strengthen their weakest stats. And he absorbed everything his teachers presented to him with great enthusiasm. He often followed his teachers back home after class, peppering them with questions, until they slipped into the Grand Den, leaving him sitting sulking outside. If Sandy lost track of Horse, that was where she looked for him first. But beyond making himself a nuisance to his elders, Horse's stubbornness was still alive and well. One day, when his teacher was explaining to the class about bird migrations, Horse was distracted by a fire ant mound nearby. Sandy was also nearby and told him to leave it alone because fire ants could be dangerous if disturbed. When the entire class was disrupted by painful howls a few minutes later, Sandy decided that Horse needed his last lesson assigned.
During his apprenticeship, Horse stayed at the Academy to help care for and train the puppies who came through after him. He pretended it was because he had been told to, but really he just wanted to learn more. His elders weren't fooled and neither were his brothers and cousins. Everyone knew that Horse would take every lesson five times if he could. That was why Mentor Swiftfoot took Horse as his personal apprentice and employed him as a teachers aid to help teach lessons. Horse loved the job so much that he suggested they give two lessons daily. Swift rejected that idea, much to Horse's disappointment, but he allowed Horse to conduct mini-lessons with puppies who were especially curious. He would have just done it anyway, even without permission, so Swift figured it was better just to go along with it. Swift was surprised at how many puppies chose to join Horse for his mini-lessons. They might play a tracking game, or an herb matching game, or some other fun educational activity. Horse had a knack for making learning fun and it wasn't long before all the puppies in the class were happy to stay for a mini-lesson.
On his first birthday, Horse took the opportunity for one more night to act like a puppy. He laughed and sang and played word games with his brothers and cousins. After a few drinks, he even proposed a round of tag with himself as the "cougar" and tagged everybody. It wasn't that hard, given the amount everyone had already drunk, but Horse still felt puffed up.
Now as an adult, Horse still loves learning and rushes to incorporate everything new he learns into the lessons he teaches the pups. His passion and enthusiasm is infectious and pups from everywhere have loved their lessons more because he was their teacher. Horse is proud of this, but rarely says anything boastful about it. He prefers to keep the focus on how to help his students learn the best they can. He uses everything from lectures to pictograms to games to play-acting to help the pups understand their lessons. Other packs' mentors and Mother Bear have praised Horse for his innovative methods and these are the accolades he feels most honored by. His goal is to make sure that the Honeywood Training Academy produces the best educated young wolves in the lands.
