Fogfrost was an adventurous little boy whose thirst for excitement could not be quenched. At playtime, he often convinced his brothers and cousins to pretend to be dangerous beasts so he could "fight" them. His pupsitter Sandfur kept a close eye on these games, to make sure things didn't get out of control. But Foggy didn't just like to have fun with the other pups, he also liked to defend them. If one of them was being scolded, he would jump to their aid, trying to explain to their elder that the wrongdoing wasn't their fault. He didn't usually succeed, but the other pups appreciated the effort anyway. They looked up to Foggy and admired his spirit, even the pups who were a little older than him. And Foggy seemed to feed off of their support and became even bolder, sometimes earning a scolding of his own.
At the Academy, Foggy was assigned to study speed, wisdom, and smarts to strengthen his weakest stats. But he was more interested in the novelty of his lessons than actually learning anything. His teachers appreciated his energy and good attitude, but wished that he would focus more and take things seriously. Sandy tried her best to give him direction, with limited success. If he learned anything, it was almost by accident while he was playing and having a good time. It seemed that Foggy could make a fun game out of anything, even a killing lesson, much to the chagrin of his teachers. With all this nonsense, Mentor Swiftfoot decided to assign Foggy's last lesson instead of letting him choose. Foggy was disappointed, but he only had himself to blame.
During his apprenticeship, Foggy was sent to study with Silvershine the stalker in order to learn smarts and wisdom. Although it wasn't the most exciting role in the hunt, Foggy relished being out on the trail with the hunters, watching them take down prey. Despite being told to stay safe, Foggy often threw himself into the action anyway, getting in the way and earning more scolding. Foggy was maturing and it bothered him that his elders didn't take him seriously. He wasn't stupid, but all anyone seemed to see were his foolish mistakes. Foggy realized that he would have to temper his boldness with caution and be more cunning. As his apprenticeship wore on, he learned to control his impulses and think before he acted. The more he did that, the more his participation led to success. His elders praised his improvement and let him help with the hunting more often.
On his first birthday, Foggy couldn't wipe the smile off his muzzle. There were so many joys to celebrate, so many drinks to drink and so many more adventures to come. But there was one thing he had to do first. He announced to everyone early in the night that he didn't want to be called Foggy anymore. He was grown up now and he wanted to be called Fog from now on.
Now as an adult, Fog still seeks adventure and considers his fearlessness his best quality. As a young adult, he was thrilled to be sent out hunting by himself in the Tundra or Glacier. He rarely failed to bring back some small prey because he was never afraid to take risks. And the admiration of his packmates let him know that he was doing the right thing. When Alpha Dawnbreeze named him as her successor, Fog knew that the Ancestors must agree. But Dawnbreeze told him that fear was valuable. It would tell him when to be careful and when he had something to lose. If something threatened the pack, then he would not be fearless, nor should he be. Fog listened to this advice but he wasn't sure he really understood it. He was certain that he would come to that understanding in time. Learning didn't scare him either. As the pack's first Alpha Darkflame once said, strong wolves are not afraid to learn. Fog loves that saying and quotes it often. He prides himself on being there for his packmates, helping them solve problems, and defending them from trouble, just as he did when he was a pup in the nursery.
