Biography
Rays of sun filled the cave warming Star's fur. Slowly he stumbles to his feet the sand shifting between his paw pads, shaking his fur the sandy particles loosen from his fur and lays back down he hesitantly sniffs the air searching for any traces of his mom returning.
He cringes at her stale scent. But the young pup held onto hope. Clinging to her last words "I will be back with dinner before sunset".
This was the second morning he woke up without his mom. His hunger grew with every passing hour, too young to hunt he had managed to dull it by teething on an old rib bone and licking damp rocks.
As the sun began to descend he sat stoically in the den 'maybe she meant she would be back this sunset' he thought optimistically.
As he drifted to sleep he imagined the way his mom smelled and what she felt like, the comfort her warmth would bring his eyelids got heavy and he drifted into a fitful sleep.
The third morning Star didn't bother to get up he stayed curled into a ball on the sandy cave floor.
A shuffling noise made his ears swivel a snort made him jump to his paws. Excitement pulsed through him as he rushed to the entrance ready to greet his mom but slid to a stop and yelped when a large dark colour wolf with hazy green eyes stood tall at the front of the entrance.
Star snarled and stood tall puffing out his chest at the sight of the unknown wolf.
The newcomer was visibly amused at the young pup but respected his display and kept his distance.
Sensing his amusement Star huffed out of annoyance. He wanted to be taken seriously.
"State your business" he demanded.
"I am a scout sent by the Fairytale pack, my name is Nightlight" the male lowered his head "and who might you be?"
"I am Star."
"Do you not have a pack?" Nightlight asked inquisitively
The young pup looked insulted at his question "my mama and I are sabres we don't need a pack!" his stance filled with pride at the statement.
Nightlight's amusement wore off he knew very little about Sabre Wolves due to their illusive and tenacious nature, he contemplated leaving before his parents returned to avoid the trouble but noticed the puppy's ribs were starting to show and there was no recent smell of another wolf.
Nightlight made the connection on what happened.
He knew if this pup was going to make it to adulthood he would have to bring the pup to the pack.
"When was the last time you ate?" he questioned.
"That's none of your business!" at that moment his stomach betrayed him with a loud growl that could have been mistaken as the growl from an adult wolf. Star flattened his ears in embarrassment.
"If you come with me you can have all the food you want," Nightlight noticed his hesitation "You can leave whenever you want too"
He skeptically eyed Nightlight, defiant he was going to decline until another deep grumble reminded him how hungry he was "fine".
Nightlight wagged his tail happy with the pup's decision. They made their way to Fairytale, the sun setting behind them as they walked.
