~ Lore of the Rising Sun Pack ~
A hushed breeze traveled across the terrain as the sun started to lower in the sky. It cast a colorful haze onto the trees and the ground. Loki stood alone on the Alpha rock that overlooked the camp. Hesitantly she turned to the sun, seeking answers from their ancestors. Her eyes were clouded, clearly showing her anxiety. So many wolves looked up to her but she didn't know what she was doing. There was a great disaster coming, she couldn't bring herself to reveal it to the pack. A cloud slowly drifted in front of the sun, Blocking the sunlight. Loki's eyes darkened. Was it a sign?.. The leader sat down in defeat, Just waiting for fate to sweep them into extinction. Her silence was interrupted by Ash, the Beta, Running up to her with a worried look on his face. "Loki! It's your pups! Come quick!" As soon as the words left his mouth, he spun around and hurried back down to the Medicine den. Loki sprung up and followed with wide eyes. She entered the den, skidding to a stop. She turned to the herbalist. "What happened?!" The medicine wolf shook her head, unwilling to make eye contact.
Loki slowly turned to Oak, her youngest pup. He was laying in his nest, completely limp. The nest was messy and herbs were scattered across the den. Loki muffled a wail of distress, Her pup, her pup is dead. It looked as if the herbalist did everything in her power to prevent it. Despite this, Loki felt anger and sorrow rise in her. She failed Oak, Not being able to find the herbs to cure his sickness. Her ears were pinned to her head and she laid next to her last living pup who was wriggling in his sleep. He also had the disease and wasn't getting better. The herbalist opened her mouth, as if about to warn the Alpha not to get too close to Dakota since it could spread but.. She turned away quietly, guilt was drowning her. Ash moved close to Loki, wrapping his tail around hers. It was a small attempt to comfort her. Seeing her glare though, He shuffled away and left the den.
Loki continued on being a good leader as much as she could. The misfortune of her first pups passing made her not want any more. She traded off many of their packs pups as well. Some of them looked too similar and it reminded her of their deaths. Ash tried to share his opinion many times but Loki wasn't having it. She left the camp for a while and bumped into a strange wolf, He was from another neighboring pack. Her original idea was to kick him out of their territory as soon as possible but He seemed to be quite a charmer. Loki fell a bit lovestruck and 'snuck' out of camp a lot to meet him. Ash wondered where the alpha left to but didn't say anything about it in fear of upsetting her. Despite feeling fatigue, she continued to rule her pack well.
After a while of this routine, Loki started feeling sick and gaining weight. She went to the herbalist, hoping that it wasn't anything lethal. The trusted medic stared at Loki's stomach with a shocked look on her face. "You-.."The herbalist paused. "What is it?" Loki urged, Swishing her tail impatiently. "You- are expecting." The herbalist finally finished, Now thinking intently. "Expecting?.. Pups?" Loki questioned, her voice cracking a bit. "Mhm" Sieko, The herbalist, Looked away slowly. Then quickly turned back with a sudden question "Who's the father? It's Ash right?" Loki narrowed her eyes, Causing Sieko to regret the last part. Though she WAS curious, If not Ash, Who? 'None of your-!' Is what she wanted to say.. Loki huffed, trying not to take out any anger on her trusted friend. ". Okay. Thank you, I'll be back later" Loki started to leave but was stopped by Sieko "Wait-" .. She hurried to the back of the den and picked up a few herbs in her jaws. "You should take these. It will help with the nausea " Loki took them with a grateful nod. "Thank you, again." Loki slowly walked out of the den.
The sky grew darker with each passing moment, It was nothing like usual. Nighttime wasn't supposed to happen until the sun went down. Loki woke up with a jolt, She was covered in sweat and she had the worst stomach pain imaginable. "Ack!" She growled, unwilling to actually get up. Ash, who was standing nearby, Perked his ears and ran inside the Alpha's den. "What's going on?!" He asked, very concerned. Loki couldn't respond though, she only muffled her pained howls. Seeing her state, Ash ran out and sped to the herbalist's den. It didn't take long for Sieko, the medic, to hurry in and shoved Ash out.
-A couple hours later-
Loki stared down at her one pup on the high rock as the moon covered the sun. Many wolves were terrified, as they had never seen anything like this but Loki, She believed it was a blessing. That her pup, Solar eclipse, Was a miracle. The sky was a combination of intriguing yet eerie colors.. Loki's pup stared up into the sky, oblivious to the panic around then. "Their name will be Solar eclipse."
-A year or so later-
Loki thought everything was fine now, Solar eclipse was grown, the pack wasn't in a famine, breeding season was thriving. All was good. Until one of her new pack mates gave birth to a litter. One of the puppies, stood out. Its face was scrunched up and it kept wheezing, seems that it couldn't breathe well. Someone fetched the herbalist, Wither. He hurried and looked over the pup closely. After a few long moments.. "I don't know what's wrong with it.. Sieko would've known.." He murmured sadly, reminiscing of the herbalist before him, Sieko, whom taught him everything. Except this.. Sieko was dead now. "Will my pups die?" The mother asked, her wide eyed stare expressing all the fear she felt. Loki stepped forwards from where she was standing nearby. "No. I won't let them." She started firmly. Wither nudged her, giving her a strict look that practically said 'Stop. Don't give her false hope.' But Loki knew the pain of your pups dying at your paws. She wouldn't let the same cruel fate that happened to her puppies happen again. Thus, She left. As soon as the next morning sun rose up, she took off. Searching far anywhere and everywhere. Until she met a magical wolf, as she thought it. The creature was a shimmering white wolf named Dove. They spoke of immortality..
Loki, determined to keep the pup alive, convinced Dove to follow her back to her camp. The white wolf nodded, understanding she wouldn't give up otherwise. He walked alert with his tail and head raised always. Despite looking so powerful, he might've been seen as paranoid too. As she fell into step with Dove, she nudged him in the shoulder where a few feathers were sticking up. "What's that?" She inquired, to which Dove stopped abruptly. "These are my wings.. well.. they used to be." He murmured, raising both of his wings up to reveal that the rest of them were missing. "I'm so sorry-" Loki apologized quickly, realizing that she accidentally hit a soft spot. Both mentally and physically. He shook his head slowly, then continued on walking. Loki watched him move for a small bit before hurrying to catch up.
They both had returned, saving the pup that seemed destined to die. It regarded some item of which the alpha had not even saw before. Dove conveniently had one on handy. Loki went to see Dove a few hours after, the sun was setting. "Hello again-" She dipped her head, stopping in front of the somewhat winged wolf. "I'd like to thank you. Is there anything our pack can supply to repay your assistance?" Loki asked. Dove motioned a paw for them to both sit down. He started to speak after a fair bit of hesitation. "Now that you mention it.. I'd like to request residence here for a while." His head swung to each side as he did a quick look around, seeming to be quite wary. Then he quietly added on another thing, talking to himself. "Before Raven tracks me down..." Loki questioningly stared at him, expecting an explanation on the figure named 'Raven.' Though the way Dove said the name felt like a cause for concern. "You can stay as long as you'd like.." The alpha said, trailing off. It was clear she wanted to ask whom 'Raven' was, yet didn't want to intrude. Dove noticed that, but silently turned his head away.
- A year or two later -
Loki strained her ears, desperate to hear what was rapidly approaching her pack. The rapid sound of paw steps getting closer and closer. All of the pack was awake, standing in a frightened protection circle. Each one facing a different direction with ears pinned and wide eyes. Loki stood at the top of the camp ledge, glancing down at her pack before then turning. Yet before she could do anything, a figure burst out of the trees. Its sharp claws dig into her shoulders and immediately made her collapse onto the cold rock. In the corner of her eye, she could see the pack all quickly faltering in their protection stance as wolverines surrounded them. She turned to look up at her attacker, the completely black wolf's red eyes burned into hers. "Raven!" Dove snarled, hurrying towards them both. Loki couldn't look away from the glowing red eyes above her. "Don't come any closer." Raven warned threateningly, her claws aimed at Loki's throat. Though the alpha wasn't afraid, she merely was a bit dumbstruck. Dove hesitated heavily, in between wanting to pounce onto Raven and wanting to keep still. "I'm fine, Dove." Loki assured the white wolf, discreetly raising her hind leg in preparation to kick Raven off. As soon as the moment was right, she pushed out with her foot on the black wolf's stomach, yet claws managed to rake through her neck fur. Loki shakily stood up to her paws but then noticed the blood dripping onto the ground beneath her. "Alpha!!" Was all she heard as she fell back onto the rock, her vision blurring. The gash in her throat was too deep, even as she pressed her paws to it, the bleeding didn't stop. "N-no-.." She tilted her head to the side, eyes flashing across her terrified pack. Apollo.. her really young son had his gaze focused on her. "Tell him- that-" She murmured. Dove stepped in front of Loki's view, also interrupting her, "You're not gonna die. You'll be alright..!" He begged hopefully, his voice giving way. "Tell-him.. I.." She lost strength in her words, the world disappearing as her consciousness faded into nothing. Raven stood not too far away from them, grinning. Loki's eyes glazed over with the cold look of death.
