Viridian wandered through the forest, deep in thought about how his life had been. Most of his previous pack had caught Influenza and didn't survive, as he did not have the proper herbs to save them since his leader wouldn't allow him to forage. He had decided to leave, since despite his role as herbalist his leader had caused him to endanger them all with his overly-proud ignorance.
Viridian sighed. He knew he wouldn't fit in well with any wolf packs, as his species only mimicked wolves. After all, he was a Reloxel and not a wolf. A creature so distrusted the world had made an attempt to forget about them, not even telling there pups stories about them anymore. They may have evolved to fit in, but there unnatural colors and finicky young gave them away.
He weaved through all the thorns on the ground, and ducked his head when low branches appeared. Where do I go now? He wondered, looking up at the sky. It was becoming night, and it looked as if it would rain soon. His paws lead him to a cave leading underneath a mountain, and he went inside. This will be better than staying in the rain for the night, he acknowledged.
Once he woke up, he trotted deeper into the cave. The elderly wolf didn't enjoy sleeping very much, so he made up for the time he was asleep by exploring and crafting medicines. Of course, he had no one to heal here. He was alone. Or, he believed he was, at least.
He managed to find the other end of the cave before he heard a loud Thud! drowned out by the weak, morning rain. Viridian looked out of the cave, struggling to see through the mist in the air. As he was a herbalist, he was trained to know when someone was hurt, and he quickly recognized the smell of blood. "Hello?" He called out, impatiently awaiting a answer as he stepped out of the cave.
A soft female voice responded, and he heard the sounds of paws scrambling to get up. "Is someone there?" She said, and he walked over to the sound of her voice. "Yes, are you alright?" Viridian asked, as he eyed the golden-green wolf who stood before him, covered in fresh cuts and bruises all over her body. Why is she here..alone? He thought. Shouldn't wolves this clumsy have a guard or an escort at least?
"I'm okay." The dandelion-colored wolf reassured him, and Viridian noticed her back left paw was bleeding quite badly, and she was limping. "My name's Summer Parakeet and I left my pack to be a traveler." She introduced herself, warmly smiling. She looked tired.
Viridian nodded. "I'm Viridian, I was my previous pack's herbalist." She doesn't have a pack either.. He noted, beginning to lick the blood off of her. She stood there, too surprised by his actions to move. "You should be more careful." He commented, picking up some nearby herbs to stop the bleeding.
She's young and she'll heal. If she was older this could've became a problem. The elderly green wolf thought, backing away from her as she licked herself in embarrassment. "Thank you." Summer parakeet sheepishly said, watching as he grabbed some more herbs and wrapped them around her back paw.
"You shouldn't be traveling alone without proper experience." Viridian advised, finishing what he was doing and turning back to her. Her eyes were a bright purple, and her fur had streaks of green. She doesn't look like a fully normal wolf, either. He realized.
"What can I do to repay you?" The she asked, putting her head down slightly in respect but still meeting his gaze and smiling. Her tail wagged slowly, and her ears remained perked as she nervously shuffled her paws.
"Nothing." Viridian answered. Why would she want to repay me? He thought. This is my job. He turned away from her and began to walk away. His fur was soaked by now, and he motioned his tail for her to follow. She slowly did, walking with only 3 paws now.
"Where are we going?" Summer parakeet asked, curiosity lacing her voice as Viridian led her back to the cave he had used for shelter minutes before. "Just over here." He responded, looking back to make sure she was still following him.
As he laid down in the cave, he curled his tail over his paws and put his head down. "You should get some rest." He simply said, not awaiting an answer as he closed his eyes. Might as well sleep the rain away. He thought. Summer parakeet had said something, but he was already half-asleep.
