Original Chaser of Puddle's Party, Founder
Named for his amber fur and keen nature, Fox joined the Lingering Howl for the remaining four years (ninety-seven rollovers) of his life. An excellent nose and mind for prey, he was a natural fit in Puddle's Party, a hunting party headed by Puddle herself. Although he was sent to the Elder's Cave at seven years of age, he never stopped hunting.
Fox fathered no pups of his own, but was a mentor to many of the pups that were born to the other members of the Lingering Howl. Known for stories and advice, he even went on to help adols, such as Cherry, with their training. Many of them successfully became hunters themselves even. Whippoorwill often came to the old wolf for wisdom.
The night of January nineteenth, under the crescent waxing moon that winter, Fox hunted with his pack-mates and friends in the falling snow. The trail became increasingly difficult to follow. Eventually, even Fox's nose was unable to find the scent or signs of the prey they had worked so hard to chase. Returning to Puddle, the hunt-lead proposed they all take a rest.
Complaining of aching bones, the amber-furred wolf dug himself a small hollow in the snow, settling down to rest. While his brown eyes began to flutter closed, his ears listened to the sound of the hunting party as they began to tell tales of past hunts, and of when they were pups.
When the sun began to rise, Puddle realized how long they had all been talking. Usually Fox was the one to rouse them to their paws and continue a hunt. The dark brown hunt-lead padded over to the eldest member of the hunting party...
His breath had stilled long ago, snowflakes perched on his eyelashes and whiskers. His nose was dry, and kissed with frost. Though his fur was warm his body had taken on the cold of the snow around him. As Puddle raised her head to lead her hunting party in a mournful howl, she caught the faintest smile on the old wolf's features...
Fox was the first of the pack to grow old, the first to find rest. Although the pack knows that he is amongst the stars, they cannot help but feel sad they won't hear his stories until they, too, have joined him in the stars.
