Ursa Major: The Greater Bear
Beloved by all, Ursa Major is treated as a star by all the zodiacs and other constellations. She is like the mother of mothers, treating all the constellations as her children. Even mortal beings view her as a mother because of how kind and gentle she is.
Whenever Ursa comes down from the stars above, she spends her time with other bears. She helps mothers raise their cubs and will go fishing with other bears in the fall. Since she doesn't require any sustenance, she leaves the fish behind usually for mother bears but will also give fish to starving carnivores if she comes across any.
Oftentimes, Ursa Major will nurse any abandoned animals she comes across when she's traveling between continents. Any animal that is far too sick or injured to last another night, Ursa will star kiss. This ability is one that only two other constellations share and it will relieve an animal of its suffering and immortalize it into the sky as a star under a constellation's care. Ursa has used this ability a lot as she has seen many animals left to die after being skinned or having their body parts taken only for them to slowly die of infection or blood loss. It breaks her heart to see the pain some animals have to go through, which is why she is one of the largest constellations in the night sky. She has brought many animals up to stay with her among the stars where they may enjoy their eternal lives with the constellations and other star kissed souls like them.
A New Star is Born
As soon as Ursa Major gave birth to her four cubs, Ursa Minor stood out to her. Her fur was speckled like the vibrant night sky. It mimicked the galaxies up above, and her eye cub's eyes were as blank as the void like a back hole. There was no hint of a soul in this bear cub. Ursa Major panicked. What went wrong? Her other three cubs, though unusual colors themselves, all had a visible soul in them. Two of her cubs had the same glowing purple eyes as hers, while one had black, but shiny eyes like any normal bear would. Ursa Minor's eyes lacked those shine.
During the first month of life, Ursa Minor was pretty motionless, but breathing. She rarely moved and didn't make a sound Something was wrong with her and Major didn't know what. Ursa Minor didn't even interact with her siblings. They tried to get her to play with them, but she didn't respond to them like they didn't even exist. Ursa Major tried to many times to make a connection with her cub; to bring them to life. Nothing worked. Eventually, Ursa Minor stopped moving and nursing entirely. Her breathing was slowing down each day, weakening her heart and lungs. This distressed Ursa Major greatly. Her cub's condition was worsening by the day, and none of the other constellations or their stars knew what to do.
Ursa Major, not wanting her smallest cub to die so soon, star kissed her. It was the only option left. If she star kissed Ursa Minor, that would give her a soul and a new life, right? Upon star-kissing her cub, Ursa Minor was brought to life. Her eyes transformed into that of swirling gas clouds like they were about to form into a new galaxy. Her pupils looked like that of a mini black hole, but there was a soul in there. Ursa Major let out a sigh of relief. Her cub was now immortal, and no longer needed food or water. The cub's fur transformed too. It was now much more like that of a galaxy, and the sparkles of light were brighter on her cub. She looked like a true star now.
Though Ursa Major was sad to see her mortal cubs grow old, Ursa Minor was her new star- her new light. She was the mother bear's pride and joy. Ursa Minor became such an energetic and bubbly bear cub ever since she was star kissed. Her pure innocence and happy-go-lucky spirit made Ursa Major smile every time she saw her. Though it took a few years for Major to allow her cub to grow independent, it was still a heart-felt moment just to see her little Ursa Minor. Though, the most they'd spend apart from each other is two days. Major didn't care about being told she was too attached to Minor. The two loved each other dearly, and Major was fiercely protective of her cub to the point where the constellations didn't even know Ursa Minor was still alive until 50 years after she was born.
Now, Ursa Major and Ursa Minor live a happy life together, and Ursa will occasionally show off her cub to the stars and constellations.
