Cherry Root: Puppy Days

Cherry Root was born in a litter of six. She was the first and only litter of alpha Berry Bark, her mother. She even shares the same golden brown pelt with a faint blue stripe. The irony is that Cherry Root is the smallest and weakest in her litter, while her mother was the largest and strongest of all her siblings. Despite this, Cherry Root was chosen as the only heir to the pack. This broke the tradition of having at least two pups take on that title to earn their status as alpha and it caused an uproar in the pack.

Growing up, Cherry never really knew her father. She was told he was a wolf in the pack, but he never interacted with her family. Eventually, he left one day without another word. Without a father figure in her life and having a mother who is almost never at home, Cherry and her siblings didn't fit in well since they didn't learn proper manners. That is when Berry decided to give them tutors. Fortunately, Cherry's tutors were the friends of the alpha and were highly respected in the pack.

Nova was a shewolf with a pelt that resembled a rising sun. Her sky blue eyes followed by her cheerful smile immediately drew Cherry to her. Tengoku was a shewolf with fur that resembled the clouds in the sky. Her red eyes were intimidating to Cherry at first, but she was pretty easygoing and often spoiled Cherry like her daughter when Berry Bark wasn't around. These two shewolves were her main tutors and both of them were quite powerful; easily able to beat Berry Bark in one-on-one combat. However, they're loyal to their pack. So loyal that they decided to help raise the alpha's pups. Both were experienced mothers themselves, and were quite old too, so they knew how to handle needy or rowdy pups like Cherry and her siblings.

During her puppy days, Nova would often train Cherry with her own pups. That is how she grew close to Daybreak, a three eyed pup with beige fur and faint red stripes that accented her blue/red eyes. What's even better is that the two shewolves were not only born a few days apart, but were grand aunt and grand niece. Their first lesson together was the day that Cherry Root discovered that Nova was actually her great grand-mother. Eager to learn more about her heritage, she was introduced to her grandparents who were also wolves in the pack, and the joyful Cherry got to spend a day with all the living members of her family once they aren't busy.

Old Fur, New Teeth

It was a late summer day when Berry Bark was on her deathbed. However, something unusual was happening. The past few days the temperature was dropping as cold winds swept through the air. It was too cold for most of the wolves in the pack. They still had their summer coats, not their thicker winter ones. A lot of the shorter furred wolves spend their time huddling with the pups and other adults inside burrows to keep each other warm. The day that Cherry Root was due to become an alpha was the day when it started snowing.

The elder alpha was in her hollow tree burrow with friends and family gathered around. "Don't forget, my dear.. You must make your grandchild the next alpha." Her voice was so raspy, so hoarse. She was clearly dying, yet she continued to fight the inevitable. "Mother... I'm not ready to be an alpha yet!" Cherry said with a whine. Her mother gave her a stern look. Though her face was badly scarred, it was still easy to read her face (most of the time). "I know you're ready." The elder huffed a little. "I started off just like you- unsure how to lead my own pack. But if you show weakness now, someone will swoop in and steal your crown." She told her daughter, who slowly nodded. "Yes mother.."

The alpha slowly stood up from her moss bed. The herbalist, Cave Crawler, tried to set her back down but stubborn alpha pushed her away. "Mother, you have to rest!" Cherry tried to get her to sit down, but Berry had her eyes set outside the burrow. "I'm not dead yet. I can still walk on my own." She let out a warning growl, and everyone in the burrow backed up. The elder's movements were slow; each time she lifted a paw to move forward, her body teetered and tottered with the wind, almost like a leaf. Tengoku and Nova kept close to her. Even though they were pretty old themselves, they more stable on their paws than Berry Bark.

In the center of the cedar tree cluster they called home, Berry Bark stood tall and proud. It was getting harder for her to stay standing. Her body temperature was dropping rappidly. "Mother, please sit down!" Cherry tried to convince her other, but she just gave her a smile. "Worry about the present, not the past." Cherry didn't quite understand what she meant, but there wasn't enough time to ask. "Hold me up. I want to die with dignity." She demanded. Tengoku and Nova leaned against either side of the alpha's body, holding her up. Cherry root has a sadened expression, but decided to help in achieving her mother's dying wish. She used her head to hold up her mother's. That's when the blizzard hit. The temperature dropped even more- it was like winter had arrived early. Everyone had to stay in large groups inside burrows just to keep themselves from freezing.

Cave Crawler huddled by Nova to give her warmth and support. The sunny pelted shewolf was finding it harder to stay standing for Berry Bark. Tengoku, however, was fine. Her coat was nice and long year-round. Cherry Root shivered under the chin of her mother. Despite the cold, she young alpha stayed in place. The four shewolves stood by their elder alpha for hours. They stayed in place for the entire day, throughout the night, and into the next morning.

The snow had finally stopped just before noon came around. Cold and weak, Cherry Root finally backed up from the body of her mother. The snow was almost up to their elbows, and Cherry was half-burried in snow thanks to her smaller body. Shaking off the snow covering her back, Cherry finally got a look her mother. Tengoku and Nover had woken up at the same time, standing by Cherry Root in awe. In front of them was a golden wolf. Frozen like a statue. The sun shined through the trees down onto Berry Bark. It was a sight that brought Cherry to tears. It was a beautiful and heart wrenching sight. Other wolves in the pack crawled out of their burrows, staring in awe at the sight. Tengoku couldn't help but smile sadly.

"She lived like a champ, died like a champ. May she rest in peace." Tengoku bowed in respect, honoring the legacy of the alpha. Nova bowed as well. Other wolves in the background dipped their heads in respect at the alpha before everyone began howling in sorrow. After a minute of sorrowful howls filling the air, it was silence. "Let us bring her body to the oak cluster. The final resting place for all alphas." Cherry Root finally spoke up. Tengoku nodded and rounded up some younger but strong wolves in the pack to help push Berry Bark there. The whole pack followed behind as Tengoku and five other wolves carefully moved the elder's body through the snow. It took three hours of walking before they finally made it, but it was worth it in Cherry's eyes.

The wolves pushed the frozen body to a large oak tree. They turned Berry Bark around so she could face the outside of the cluster, like she was watching over the small oak tree forest. "Goodbye, Berry Bark." Cherry Root spoke softly, a sombre look on her face. Everyone stood in silence for a minute to honour the deceased alpha before they began their journey back home.

Scar backstory: Exploring her favourite place, the prairie, Cherry came across a hunting bobcat. She unknowigly scared off the prey, which upset the cat and made it claw her hind leg in anger. Cherry snarled and got into a physical fight with the bobcat, which it didn't win. Returning home, the pack knew she had the Apha's Curse. Cherry didn't try to deny it. The past three alphas did until it was too late. Instead, Cherry embraced the curse as a part of her lineage. The remnant of HellFires' mistakes that will forever follow her decendants.

2nd: Won against a level 7 Gray Fox. Gained Scar: Foot
Scar backstory: Treading through the prairelands, Cherry Root came across a fox. Wanted to get its pelt, she chased after it. The fox stood its ground, yiping and yowling at her as the two began fighting. The fox clawed her foot, leaving a deeper cut where the bobcat had clawed her. She injured the fox's leg in return before it fled elsewhere.

3rd: Won against a lvl 7 Timber Wolf. Gained Scar: Ear [Right]
Scar backstory: In the coniferous, Cherry Root was searching for owls to taunt. Their feathers were quite valuable to the pack. A young dispersal snarled at her, claiming she was on their "territory". Rolling her eyes, Cherry decided to challenge the wolf to a duel. The loser had to leave the territory. The wolf accepted, but was surprised by Cherry Root's strength. She had the wolf pinned on its back in seconds, so it bit into her right ear to try and get her off. It worked, and Cherry reeled back while wincing in pain. That gave enough time for the wolf to run. At least she won the challenge.

4th: Beat a lvl 17 Deerwolf at lvl 18(?). Gained Scar: Small Eye [Left] (New!)
Scar backstory: Explorin the dreamlands, Cherry found a strange creature that the elders never mentioned made residence in the dreamlands. Was it the offspring of regular wolf and a lunar deer? That's what Cherry Root thought when she came across a deer-wolf hybrid. It was stronger than she thought, however, and was pretty hostile. It lunged at her, antlers down. It sliced her eyelid upwards, but she was extremely lucky it didn't cut through her eyelid or into her eye itself. After a long battle, Cherry defeated the deerwolf and woke up back home with a new scar that worried her pack.

5th: Beat a lvl 12 Canadian Lynx at lvl 19. Gained Scar: Small Eye [Right] (New!)
Scar backstory: Treading through the tundra, Cherry came across a lynx. She heard their pelts were quite valuable, yet no other alpha in the pack's history really bothered them. Wanting to find a new source of profit, Cherry charged forward. The lynx was smarter than she thought, wearing her down by constantly avoiding her attacks. When she thought the lynx was about to run, it suddenly lunged at her and sliced her right eye with its claw. She closed her eyes just in time to prevent further injury, but it sure was a close call. She managed to tear its ear, but it ran off after that. Another failure to obtain a pelt for Cherry Root.

6th: Defeated a lvl 13 Moose Bull at lvl 19. Gained Scar: Eyeless [Right] (NOOOO)
Scar backstory: Wanting to turn more moose ears into necklaces, Cherry Root explored the taiga at night. From out of the bushes, a moose bull appeared. It was late fall, so this bull was extra aggressive. It pinned its ears and charged at her. Cherry had no time to react- the bull had punctured her eye with a sharper point of its antler. She howled in pain which alerted her pack members back in the grasslands. The moose kept up its assault as she desperately tried fighting back. With all of her injuries, she felt close to death. Fortunately, her cousin and two other pack members showed up and helped her slay the bull moose. Returning home with the help of her pack members, Cherry passed out for two days while the Herbalist tended to her wounds.

7th: Beat a lvl 5 Timber Wolf at lvl 20. Gained Scar: Ear [Right]
Scar backstory: In the taiga, Cherry Root came across a hostile timber wolf. They were from a pack, so she "wisely" decided to wait a few days to return to the spot. She rolled in mud, then tracked down the wolf. Once they were alone, she ambushed them. They tore out more of her right ear, but she quickly suffocated them to death. Now, their pack won't know who killed them.

Scar backstory: Treading through the swamp, Cherry came across a hostile red wolf. They were a scout from a pack in the swamp, and they began attacking her. In self defence, she fought back. They managed to notch her left ear, so she decided to give them some facial makeup with their own blood. Unfortunately for Cherry, that was when the rest of the pack returned and she had to fight the furious alpha and their members. She was able to gravely wound their alpha and caused the pack to flee to tend to the wounded alpha.
