Miraak is much prouder and more cautious than his father. After Kotori's sacrifice, Miraak suddenly felt the entire responsibility of the pack fall on his shoulders.
Since he was a pup, he has always felt a little different because of his peculiar coat. He has a kind of half melanism, which he only learned to accept thanks to after meeting his partner and now queen: Herhena, who has a similar condition to his own.
Miraak had to fight for Herhena against her powerful father in order to obtain her freedom. Her father eventually recognised the value of the young wolf after a bloody challenge that left scars on Miraak, but then allowed his daughter to follow him.
As mentioned before, Miraak is definitely more cautious than the previous king, and also a more ruthless fighter. Everything he does, he does for his pack, even if it requires the worst.
Miraak began to think that the reason for Kotori's death was not the Lunar Somnabulia* itself, but the refusal to use it. Miraak thought that this 'gift' had to be trained from the beginning in order to use it without being injured, unlike his father who flatly refused to use it, except at the end of his life, losing control of it. Miraak will be the next leader after his granma Aska to use it, and will teach his kids to use its power to protect the pack and themselves in the next future.
Many in the pack, including his siblings, thought Miraak was making a huge mistake in going against Kotori's last will or that he was even slowly losing his mind entirely.

*SpoilerLunar Somnabulia is a power that only those born exactly a few minutes the end the lunar night event can have.
It is a power that gives those in possession of it the ability to emit blue flames from various parts of the body, usually strongest in the tail. These flames are much hotter than a normal fire and are very difficult to extinguish. They usually reduce whatever they touch to ashes before extinguishing.
The power is activated in heavy moments of stress and the one who uses them, if not trained to withstand the enormous force of this power, will faint a few minutes later, may experience fever or severe discomfort. Abusing it can also lead to death by internal self-burning.
However, there are a few individuals called "sleepwalkers" , who have been able to control the power and use it at will.
These beings are unbeatable.
