As far back as she could remember, Redmoon had been having the same dream every new moon. Running...running as fast as she could through a dense forest of evergreen trees. Scaling steep hillsides crawling with ferns and thorny vines with ease. Leaping over spring-fed creeks in one bound. Fragrant twigs of fir and hemlock getting caught in her pelt as she wove her way through the closely-packed trees. Claws kicking up sandy clay and pine needles in her wake.
Something was silently calling to her, something big, bigger than the forest, bigger even than the moon. All night she would run tirelessly, until at last, she found it. The end of the world.
A vast, open stretch of water that covered the horizon. Jagged, dark rocks towered in the shallows, marking the edges of the shoreline. Indigo clouds hung heavily, and a silty breeze ruffled her fur. It was as if the land simply fell away, into a rippling steel-blue void.
As the dawn began to break behind her, she would lay down and soak in the sights, smells, and sounds. She memorized everything about that exact beach, and the route she had run to reach it.
Redmoon, once known as Redhowl, knew at the core of her being, that this was all going to be hers one day.
And she was right, as usual.
