The steady thudding of paws earth is something she longs for. When she sleeps she dreams of the great wilds in which she makes her home, when she's awake she's trotting across the countryside. Calliope's soul longs to know the earth like a lover, and that's why when Marrow wants her to scout, she's running before she can process if she said yes.

Calliope thought the greatest pain in the world was being tied to one place. Giving birth hurt more, of course, but once her jaw bites clean through the branch in her mouth, it was over. Raven licks her brow, steadying Calliope's heart, and nuzzles a hopelessly small lump towards her abdomen.
Calliope lays eyes on her daughter for the first time. Her heart bursts, when she opens her mouth to howl no sounds comes out but a soft, strangled cry. She has a daughter. A beautiful baby girl. In that moment she understands what love is, and in the moment being tied to one place is such a miniscule worry she could have laughed.
She licks her daughter clean, and promises her all the fruits of this world.
