August that Stays Beloved

First Cultivator of Alsace

The cultivator works very closely with the herbalist of the pack, residing in the same den. They role differs as, whilst the herbalist organises herbs and creates cures for the pack, tending to ailments, the cultivator grows them in the first place. The cultivator's job is to find patches of good herb yeild, monitor them, care for them, and forage alongside the herbalist. Cultivators protect herbs from pests, trampling predators, wilting, and disease, selectively destroying any herbs that look infected so the disease does not spread across stock, before picking them as they grow on forages with the herbalist.

August was born a singluar blue ember amongst a litter of foxes. Ofcourse, such natural variation was not uncommon in wolf litters, and so his mother Leaf took no notice. Ever silently disapproving, he snapped at his littermates and older packmates too, indignance shaking his soul at every minor inconvenience. It was only later in life that August grew to be sullen by comparison to his littermates, who barked and screeched as they tussled. August, immune to their contagious puppyish fever, never uttered more than a whine.
At the age of around 4 moons, it became apparent August was mute. In a disfunction of the vocal cords, caused by apraxia that developed with time as muscles concerned with speech developed more abnormal, the puppy lost the ability to speak altogether, whilst previously he was able to say his name along with other one-word demands. This was not helped by the fact that he had also been born almost entirely deaf.
Growing to be more secluded, despite the encouragement of his pack, August retreated to the silent work of cultivation of herbs, creating a role for himself alongside the herbalist Bluegrass, who took a liking to the puppy immediately as he spent more and more time in the medicine den's silence. Eventually, the Alsacian pack understood that August was not avoidant, but simply preferring of solitude; and so his mother and mentor supported him in his wishes.
