Lore: The sun hung low as the travelers' paws grew sore. The wolf trudged wearily through the tall grass. Her fur, once a beautiful blend of dark red and black, had lost its luster. Dirt clung to her coat, as she hadn't had time to groom herself. She sought shelter beneath a gnarled old tree.
Unbeknownst to her, a large tan and cream wolf had been stalking her for a while. He had picked up her scent, which was similar to that of the boar he was hunting. Mistaking her for prey, he lunged, his teeth sinking into her flank. A sharp yelp escaped her snout as he quickly released her, his eyes wide with surprise and remorse.
"I'm so sorry!" he stammered, his tail drooping in apology. He licked his lips, gagging in an attempt to rid his mouth of her unpleasant scent. She later learned his name was Howl.
The rest of the group, alerted by the commotion, gathered around. A large, imposing figure emerged from the long grass. His black and grey fur and large build were intimidating, and his narrowed eyes glared at her. "Who are you?" he demanded, his voice low.
Before she could respond, a smaller yellowish-brown wolf with odd blue markings intervened. "Calm your tits, Arostique," she said, swatting him with a paw. "She's injured, no thanks to you." Her gaze fixated on Howl as she tossed some dirt at him in punishment.
The wolf turned to Umberpatch with a warm smile. "Don't mind him. He's hangry," she said, chuckling as he walked away, grumbling in defeat. "What's your name?"
"Umberpatch," she introduced herself, feeling a sense of relief wash over her.
"Well, I'm Noya!" The wolf's infectious enthusiasm filled the air as she invited Umberpatch to join the pack for a quick stay, offering her shelter and care. Arostique, though reluctant, agreed, his pride temporarily overshadowed by embarrassment.
As they made their way back to the pack's territory, they encountered two more wolves. Carmella, a cheerful brown and bluish-white wolf, had blood dripping from her mouth, which she eagerly slurped up. Gaelan, a large, stocky wolf, dragged a deer carcass behind him. Noya's chatter filled the air, barely giving Umberpatch a chance to speak.
When they arrived, they were greeted by Ozark, a tired-looking wolf with three pups hanging off of him, nipping at his fur. He handed the pups over to Noya with a sigh of relief. "Your turn," he muttered before collapsing onto the ground with a huff.
A smaller white wolf sneaked up behind Arostique, startling him a bit before nuzzling into his fur with an inviting whine. Her tail brushed against his as she made eye contact with Umberpatch. A nervous smile crossed her snout as she whispered into Arostique's ear. "Who is that?"
After they were introduced, Bisanuu, the pack's leader, offered the herbalist's den to Umberpatch so she could be patched up. Umberpatch accepted with relief and followed Bisanuu to the den.
