Bàs was the only pup borne to Smoc, who doted on him and thought the world of him. Bàs wasn't as strong as the other males of the tribe but he was healthy, and that was enough. Bàs grew up around many other pups, one of which he became close with - Darach - she was a few moons older than him but that never made a difference between them. They were approaching their adolescence, which meant that they would be trained soon. Bàs walked through the dense forest of their territory with Darach, just outside of the camp.

"Who do you think will train you?" Bàs asked Darach, her brows scrunched as she thought. It was a few moments before Darach responded, "I heard murmurs from the hunters that it would be Duslach." She said, a hint of hope in her voice. Bàs gave a small scoff, "That old wolf is so obnoxious." He muttered, which earned a shove from Darach, "What it's true!" He huffed. Darach failed to stifle a smile, "Whether it's true or not, you can't deny that Duslach is a skilled hunter with years of experience." She said as she waited for Bàs' reaction. Bàs reluctantly nodded, "You're right. I don't know, he's just... loud, that doesn't seem fitting for you." He added the last part quietly, in hopes she wouldn't hear it.

Darach gave him a quizzical glance as she stopped by the creek, "Oh?" She prodded, clearly wanting to hear what he was thinking. Bàs lifted his head, his eyes wide, "I-I just meant in the sense that- well you- I didn't mean it in a bad way!" He fumbled over his words, "You're just so kind and understanding, you're always there to help a wolf without expecting anything in return or boasting about it." Bàs said as he avoided her gaze. Darach smiled, almost bashfully, "I never knew you thought so highly of me." She said quietly, pawing at the water's edge. Bàs looked at her as he lapped up some water before Darach spoke again, "Who do you think you'll get?" She asked. Bàs smiled as he lifted his head, "Oh I hope I get my mother! She's skilled, intelligent, and she's an excellent teacher!" His tail twitched happily as he spoke of his mother. Darach nudged him, "You and your mother are as alike as two drops of water!" She meant it as a compliment.
