He'd said to his Leader on his second birthday. The next autumn morning he would become King. His Leader had known from the moment they'd met that this wolf would be a benefit to the pack, finding favor with witches to keep the male young and healthy as he withered with age.

Over his first year in the pack Elfnir grew close to a fellow piebald wolf. Chatting over pupsitting, talking about his adventures, admiring her dawnlike pelt and sharing dreams for the future.

As he became the leader of the pack he felt emboldened. Walking into his role in the moonlight of the Lunar Realm. He was confident before but now he became combative, headstrong, and decisive.
He evaluated his people and chased away dead weight, reorganizing his hunters to be more efficient over the first autumnal months of rule.
