Zephyr's mother was barely alive when Star Shine, out scouting, had come across her. To make matters worse, she was heavily pregnant and malnourished. Thinking fast, the scout let out a howl. Whitewater Eddy wasn't far off, and arrived shortly with a mink in her jaws. The frail dam scarfed it down while the gray wolf ran back to the pack to alert the old herbalist, Mountain Gust.
Steadily, slowly, Star and the stranger made it to Sky Wheel territory. Gust met them at the border, and went out the she-wolf. Luckily, she had no major injuries. With some food and rest, she was strong enough to birth her litter the next morning. All but Zephyr were stillborn.
It was a harsh blow to the young mother, but she poured all of her love and attention into her only pup.
