Nan checked Chickadee (chaser)'s progress through a chasing test. Chickadee (chaser) had to avoid being caught, which seemed completely impossible, but she wisely used all the tricks and feints to gain an advantage.

The moon above was a sliver of silver hanging in the starry sky, and bugs sang songs through until dawn broke to caress the peaks with her rosy fingers. Near a waterfall, in a grove of tall evergreens, there lived a large pack of wolves who called themselves the Scarlet Sun. Several females were lying in little dens they'd dug out or found, and it is in one such den that Jaybird had just finished whelping. It was her second litter — sure to be her last — and it contained three puppies. The first was a black male, the second was a gray female, and the third was a gray and brown female.
Chickadee was the second puppy.
