Biography
Raven is a piebald paw with corrupted black and crimson underfur and faded, unfocused vile eyes. She's adorned with rose gold piercings on her lips, ears, and face.
She arrived in the Phoenix Tribe on November 21st, 2024, and is the littermate of Ant and Rowan. (Raven originally looked like this.)
She got her ASS BEAT by a buck in the deciduous forest, antlers splitting open her face. It healed as a gnarly scar. (12/16)
Note: Raven is transfem and will eventually use she/her pronouns. Refer to the Tribe's Culture in my den's biography to understand how gender works here.
I gender her the way she would understand her own gender as she grows - she will be using he/him in her puphood which will evolve with her own self-understanding.
Puphood
Raven never trusted what he was told about his upbringing, unlike his gullible littermates. Their den was abandoned for no explainable reason? The infected wolf Aloe "rescued" them and "accidentally" spread her parasitical infection? Him and his siblings barely survived the alien parasites that left his body a wreck!
Yeah, sure, that was completely by accident. And Aloe, the Head Scout's daughter who gave them the infection, was just okay with the alien lumps on her body and letting parasites kill her. No way. Raven was way, way smarter than that. He never trusted Aloe for a second.
He spent so much of his time with her, too! His litter grew up bedbound in the Bitter Den by Twig, the tribe's herbalist, which the Scouts—including Aloe—guarded.
Aloe was weird. She worked in opposites, trying to spoil the pups one second and having nothing to do with them the next. She cared about them? More like she felt bad for them, as if he couldn't put two and two together! She gave him and his littermates this disease, the grown ups said so! If she wanted to cause them this much pain, why pretend like she was all upset about it sometimes? Did she want his forgiveness? Because she wasn't getting it.
He grew up only knowing prickling pain in his stomach, the smell of vomit, and the frailness of his own body. He didn't get to play or go outside with Estrogen's litter, who frolicked around and had so much more energy than him. He snipped at them and generally didn't welcome their presence, anyways - he would have shooed them away even if the grown ups didn't do that for him. He hated that he couldn't be like them, deep down. He felt more like an adult than a pup.
He much preferred the company of Cel or Twig, older wolves who tended to his condition. They made him eat gross, bitter herbs, but they also told him stories by his nest after he ate them. Those stories were the most fun he had in his puphood, cuddled up to his siblings in a warm den, listening to the wonderful tales of the Tribe's history and local mythology. Each tale was a magical journey! He loved it!
He also saw these large, muscley wolves around named Sigil and Zircon. They were all scratched up!
Sigil, a big black wolf and Aloe's littermate, had the same weird attitude as her. He would try to play with Raven sometimes, but seemed weirded out when Raven couldn't keep up with him. He didn't know how to use this stuff! His body hurt too much to run and jump a lot, it wasn't his fault, so why did Sigil stop visiting as much...?
Raven bickered with his siblings a lot, trying to help them see the truth about what was going on. Ant would just tattle on him to the adults, who would lecture his arrival story again. Like it changed since the last time! It was definitely his least favorite story, even more than the stupid lame ones with lame endings.
Raven really tried to befriend his sister Rowan, who never gave him the time of day. She was always the sickest of the litter and couldn't do much. She tried to roughhouse when she could, though, which Raven thought was so stupid and pointless. Plus, it always ended up hurting her more than it was fun. But she'd do it all the time! What was up with that? Asking for trouble, if you ask Raven...
Some grown ups, like Rinty the other scout, would make comments on his coat and talk about how he was a ladykiller, or how lucky his mates would be. He felt really uncomfortable with all that. He didn't want to be a dad, even though everyone else practically forced him into it. What was so good about that, anyways? Nothing! He wanted nothing to do with it!
Raven always felt like the odd one out. He didn't get along with his siblings, he had no parents or pupsitters. The other wolves looked at him weird. He felt unlovable. Something about him must be wrong, right? And it was Aloe's fault, right!?
He didn't care what the adults said, he hated his body so much for what Aloe did to it! How was he supposed to feel happy like this? She took his body from him...!! He never looked in the water and really liked what he saw in the reflection. It was all her fault...
So no matter what anyone said, he hated her. She was the origin of all his stupid pointless problems, and now he had to suffer.
Underpawship
Raven's mentors were the chasers in Nightshade's Shadow - Cedar, Cel, and Aurora.
The symptoms had mostly subsided by the time the litter became underpaws, but its damage was done. It was so much harder for Raven to keep up with Nightshade's Shadow on hunts, his legs were weak and he got out of breath embarrassingly quicker than the hunters.
The other underpaws - a bunch of littermates - were as aloof as Rowan! He ends up befriending One, the first person who actually gets him and who he can feel like himself around.
Little friendship between one and raven, becoming a bit of a bully - he thought she cared. He connects with her! They get piercings together - her, him, and her brother Two. Its so much fun. They sneak off together and one night he tells her he thinks hes like her, like a girl. One didnt treat him the same after that and it got out everywhere, everyone talked to him about it and it felt awful. It *was* awful.
Sleeps in rustys den, the elder he takes care of. Talks with him, slips in a few she/hers in narrative around him. So much hate and bitterness in her heart, but shes going to be a fine wolf, he says.
One tries to act like nothing happened and he Rav's friend but gets snapped at and pounced on, raven actually attacks her and scares the shit out of her, shes not used to that level of fighting back and was useless in the fight. Stopped hanging out with her and steered wide and clear from her, but clearly wants to still be her friend. Not that Raven cares. She's so hurt...
Adulthood
Raven was put in Smoke Claws, replacing Haven in the family hunting party. She felt awkward at first, since these wolves were the ones she used to pick on in her adolescence. She didn't understand why Rusty put her with them!
Their mother, Polar, shot her death glares every time they hunted, never uttering a word to her. She clearly wasn't happy with Raven for...whatever reason she may have had. Two, three, and four seemed either neutral or skittish around her. Raven just felt hopeless. They were the least successful hunting party by far, and Raven was filling the shoes of Polar's mate, who had been the best stalker in the Tribe. What was Raven supposed to do?
On top of it all, she couldn't even rest in her own den at night and wollow in her misery. Aloe was always there. What a bitch!
Raven became sneakier as a wolf, finding some enjoyment in pranking people still like she did when she was a pup, although it was much more mild than before. It was done out of this cinical pessimism and feeling unaccepted by everyone around her, having little contact with her siblings, not talking to one, feeling outcasted by the hunting party, and to top it all off she kept getting stuck with aloe, who she absolutely hated!
The one thing she did enjoy was telling stories to pups and giving herself some new piercings.

Raven was originally named "Keep" by his birthmother Gecko, which was forgotten after the Phoenix Tribe adopted him. For whatever reason, Gecko abandoned the litter's den in the grasslands and never returned. The pups were found by Aloe and nursed with Baked on Estrogen.
Raven and his surviving littermates came into contact with Gnathostomiasis as newborns, on the brink of death. There, some of Gnath's parasitic eggs entered his body, but they could not mature enough to reproduce and eventually died out. This left his body profoundly affected, however, stunting his growth and leaving symptoms - such as the unfocused red eyes and seemingly rotted blackened skin - on his body permanently.
He also ends up really taking to tribe mythology? Learns all the folklore by heart? Spends a lot of time with Cedar, who knows a lot of these. Maybe even Rinty since he has a mate who knew a lot about local legend. He gathers all the stories from the tribe essentially.
At three months, he was still scrawny but his personality kicked in on full tilt. He was a mischevious little bastard!
