Starr was a sled dog in a sled dog team, until his musher crashed and toppled over the cliffs during one of his team's runs. The rest of the team went back to the village they were from to alert the others what had happened, but the storm got so bad that Starr had gotten lost in the woods of the mountain. He figures out the way to survive alone pretty quickly, but once he had learned there were wolves nearby he had changed his ways to pack life.
Somehow, he's managed to hide that he is a husky to the rest of the pack and, even though he's sure they wouldn't care too much, plans to keep it that way.
His experience in sled racing has led to him being a decent hunter.
