"Well! One of my pups will rule this pack one day, Rosy! Just you wait and see!"
This wolf stands proudly over Rosebud, who seems to be very familiar with him despite only half-listening to his braggadocio. Cohosh has one of the more unusual and striking pelts you've seen in Shenandoah so far and, upon further inspection, his fur has a slight curl to it.
You've heard that Cohosh is one of the pack's hunters, and that he came to Shenandoah as a pup. In truth, he was taken in alongside several other small pups, some of whom did not survive. Pheasant's hunting party stumbled across an abandoned burrow where these pups were left. After tending to the pups and speaking to the ones that could yet speak, it was decided to bring them back to Shenandoah. Having come from the same situation, Cohosh, Sparrow, and Rosebud are very close to one another... even if Cohosh is somewhat unbearable to most due to an inflated ego.
When Cohosh went roving in the southern deserts, he didn't expect to come back pregnant. But, after a chance meeting with someone Cohosh refers to as a "cult leader," that is exactly what happened. Snakeroot, whose name is simply another word for the plant Cohosh is named after, was born small and sickly. But from the way Cohosh speaks about him, you would never know. From day one, Snakeroot has received his father's glowing praise... and all of the expectations that come along with it.
Snakeroot's upbringing may have been unbearable had it not been for his pupsitter, Sparrow. Where his father was quick to criticize Snakeroot for every perceived flaw in his comportment or actions, Sparrow would always reassure Snakeroot that he was doing just fine, and that his father was going overboard. Even so, it was difficult for Snakeroot not to take his father's remarks to heart from time to time.
Eventually, Snakeroot decided to strike out on his own. Cohosh didn't take this well; he'd been convinced that his son was going to take over the Shenandoah Pack one day. It wasn't long after Snakeroot left that Cohosh became pregnant with the first litter of pups between him and his mate, Crow's Foot. It would probably be rude to assert that he was actively trying to replace Snakeroot, but you've heard whispers along those lines from other members of the pack.
