"Through fang and crimson, bound to our loyalty, do you Sven swear to the Wolf Gods that you will forever protect this pack?" Khanrie'ah stood before this young wolf. Sven could feel the sharp stare burning on the back of his neck fur. His head was bowed to the ground and his tail was tucked under him, whining briefly. "I do! I swear," he barked. Wolves around them lined the walls of the packs encampment, howling wildly. One wolf in particular, a red pup, much older than himself, was glaring at him. The red pup seemed furious as if Sven had taken something from him. "You're at the age of mentoring, and so, I will give you your mentor. Until you reach the moon of adulthood, have your first battle at The Howl of the Wolves, your mentor will be Rowan. He is a perfect wolf. For I have seen him hunt, train, and battle. He won against Skoll at The Howl of the Wolves." Skoll curled his lips back into a growl before he stood to his paws and stalked off into the dark part of the encampment. This towering fire-colored, fawn-looking wolf approached Khanrie'ah from behind, taking his spot. His head dipped to mine and touched my nose. This was Rowan. He seemed different from the pack-born; Shorter fur, longer claws, and a forest scent. He was not of this pack, but instead brought into. Like me. I smiled, raising my nose to his. I loved this pack already! Khanrie'ah continued. "You mustn't grow attached, young Sven, for you will battle your mentor at The Howl of the Wolves to prove you're worthy of becoming a pack member. Remember this; It's either you die fighting for this pack or die in vain. Kill your enemy before it kills you." Khanrie'ah's tone made Sven stiffen. Kill or battle? Why must we shed blood...
