Meili is the second leader of the Mugoi pack, inheriting that position after his grandfather Moriko, the first canine that led this pack, passed away due ageing. The position was supposed to go to his father Yoru (Moriko and Eiko’s oldest son) but the jet colored wolf decided that he was too old for that and that his only surviving child would do a better job. The ceremony happened shortly after Moriko’s death, happening during a harsh winter.
Prey was already scarce when Moriko was alive and got worse when Meili became the leader. They were extremely lucky if they managed to catch a bird or two, the young canine kept sending the pack’s best hunters to try to catch some prey. The beginning of his reign was known as the “The whispers of hunger” since the pack’s members were very near starving. As a consequence the weight of keeping the pack alive ended up falling on the hunters and lead wolf’s shoulders. The hunters worked non-stop and Meili always hunted when he could.
But they were lucky enough for the winter to be on its end, spring came and brought plenty of prey with it. The first animals they managed to take down to feed the pups were beavers, the pups were amazed and curious about the meat since it was the first time they were eating it. All of the pups weren't his children, they were born when their father (Moriko) was becoming or was already an old wolf. He had his first child with a liver she-wolf called Numa.
