Chanterelle

Chanterelle is the female alpha and a scout of the forest pack named the Viridis Greenwood Pack. She is named after the yellow-orange mushroom of the same name, which is a choice edible. She has a quiet personality. She helped in the first complete scouting of the Riparian Woodland, the Coniferous Forest, the Grasslands, and the Desert.

Chanterelle's relationship with Calendula, her pate and fellow pack founder, became strained after he chased away Daffodil, her goldenrod son with grey eyes who only inherited his father's black dilution and his mother's white bottoms. To fill the void that Daffodil's chasing left, she considers herself the foster mother of the two pups that Calendula has taken in from the Trading Center.

When Chanterelle found out that Calendula chased his only daughter Gazania away, she was devastated. She swore to never have puppies with him again, especially if he'd treat them as if they were strangers. However, she does give her love more fiercely to Morchella and Thunbergia, two half-sibling puppies Calendula bought from another pack.

But of course, just when Chanterelle thought it couldn't get any worse...it did.

Calendula found out Thunbergia's bloodline would be cursed if she ever had children, and while she was still allowed to stay in the Viridis Greenwood Pack, she had to agree to a promise: at adulthood, if she wanted to have children, she'd have to leave the pack and find a new one -- apparently, leaving the pack who knew you as a pup keeps anyone from knowing their true origins. This was upsetting for Chanterelle, as Calendula had up to this point been excited at her presence in the pack and seemed as if he wanted her to stay. She hated that he did this when they had been bonding for months, and wished that the alpha had just checked Thunbergia's lineage in the first place.

Morchella, who was Thunbergia's half brother, had the same issue...but in the chaos of the night Calendula took in many pups, he got spooked out of the pack's camp by a huntrer-for-hire who was in turn being chased by the pack's alpha.

Chanterelle knows that chased pups don't survive in the wilderness without adults -- they just don't have the smarts or guidance to stay alive. It was at this point that Chanterelle shut herself down, rarely speaking to any of the pack members and spending most of her time scouting new areas or planning to rescout areas her and Hydrangea had already mapped out. The only wolf really close to her at the time is her fellow scout, who listens to her vent about her issues but knows that just like her, she can do nothing.
