Coil had been for sale in the market for some days, sullenly posing for the crowds who spared neither his sister nor himself a second glance. This was the way of things though, the market was loud and crowded and hectic, never still or quiet even in the nights. That's why it was so strange to see a ripple pass through the crowd one evening, just as dusk fell. The market could never be called silent, but the wolves' voices dulled to a murmur, many retreating to the shadows, all making a path down the center of the market. Coil looked on with interest, peering with interest to see what had caused such a reaction in this boisterous crowd.
It took a moment, but he saw them. Two wolves. Leading them was one of the largest wolves he'd ever seen, true black, unadorned except for the red, mask-like markings on her face. She walked with all the power and grace of an Alpha, though her scent was unfamiliar. To her side stood a much smaller wolf, even younger than himself, the shadow that his Alpha was not. He was true black, no points on him to speak of. His eyes were dreamy as he took in the market around him, clearly entranced by the sight. Coil knew in his bones that this young male was not here to be sold.
The two wolves padded near-silently through the market, ignoring the way the crowd shrank from him. Coil watched in awe. They padded right past him, and Coil thought they would continue, as many others had, but the young male stopped and locked eyes with him. His eyes were the deepest blue Coil had ever seen, and he felt his tongue dry as the male's eyes bored into him. Refusing to look away, Coil let his tail wag, just slightly. This was clearly the correct response, because the young male wagged his tail right back, trotting up to him.
The wolf's name was Morrigan. Coil was enamored with him immediately; caught off guard by his confidence and beauty, which Coil could see in spades despite their youth. Equally, he admired the she-Alpha, whose name he learned was Masquerade, the mother of the beautiful boy, for her clear hunting prowess and ability to command wolves of all creeds. They spoke to him for only a few minutes before Masquerade quietly snuck off to talk about pricing for Coil, surprising him by not only paying for Coil but for Dove, his sister.
