Odin

Named after the Norse god of cheifs, war, wisdom, magic and poetry.

In the mythology Odin was the most powerful and wise god, also known as the allfather. He was considered to be the cheiftain of the gods and the god of chiefs. His parents were Bor and Bestla, and he is the brother of Vilje and Ve.

Odin is the husband of Frigg, the most powerfull goddess in Åsgard, and together with her he became the father of Balder, Hod and Hermond. With Jord (Fjòrgyn), he became the father of Tor. With Rind, he became the father of Våle and Skjold. With Grid, he became the father of Vidar.

Odin's residence is named Valaskjavl, where he sits on his high seat Lidskjavl. Odin obtains the spear Gungne and the golden ring Draupne.

There is a theory surrounding Odin, which states that he was originally the god of the night, whom later on became promoted to become the main god of the Norse mythology. Another theory states that he is a continuation of an old Indo-European god of fathership or death, with aparent aspects of being a shaman. Later on he got considered to also be a god of war, of wisdom, of magic, of poetry and more.

Snorre tells of Odin in his Ynglingesaga, and depicts Odin as an powerful cheiftain whom immigrated Scandinavia with his tribe, and settled down in Old Sigtuna.
