Biography
~Azrael~
The first of the strange wolves to call the Luminae pack home, but certainly not the last. Azreal was a stranger in the midst of a pack of friendly wolves. Darkness defined her appearance with not a speck of color amongst the black. Being an outcast, no matter where she roamed it made it difficult to settle into a home. She had vague memories of her birth home. Her mother had a darker coat, but her mother was nothing like how Azreal had been described by others. The rest she couldn't quite remember, only that she was moved from her home a long time ago.
Different. It was something that Azrael lived by and was even slightly ashamed of. It was strange to hear how welcoming this pack was she had stumbled into. Alone in a heatwave, a rookie scout found Azrael exhausted in the desert. Manik, the former scout, had brought her to his home in the prairie to recover and Azrael has lived there ever since. She always thought it was funny how she was a wolf the color of pure night and the place she called home was named for the brilliance of light.
Now she lives happily as a pup caretaker with Manik (who, after finding out scouting was not his calling, became a pup sitter to spend more time with Azrael) who became her mate. She was able to carry many litters of pups, many of her children became wanderers traveling to other packs or seeing the corners of the world. She made sure to love every one of her pups with all her heart, appreciating each one of their differences.
Azreal made many friends here and became like a daughter to the family of the First Alpha, Ace, and his mate, Brazen. Azrael was always a wolf with words, never taking much interest in the hunts or battle training of the other wolves. She shares many memories with the healer of the pack, having many conversations about the world and their places in it. If her love for pups was any less some say she may have made a great healer, but her heart would always belong to the little fuzzballs of the pack.
Azreal also takes on another important role for the pack. She holds responsibility for taking care of the burials of fallen packmates and assisting them in their spiritual journey to the next world. Nicknamed "The Angel of Death" for her abilities to speak with those in the next world, it was rumored that all wolves like her were given to the wolves by the gods to allow the world to understand the cosmos.
During the Coigreach inception, the wolves around the continent were baffled by strange disappearances and mystic encounters. Strangely, during this time Azrael's connection to the spirits was severed. Once the spirit had taken off and the events started to dissipate, her connection came back! But with something else, visions and prophecies started to develop in her mind. Wolves she had never seen flashed before her mind.
The visions had nearly destroyed her mental state, and after many weeks of rehabilitation and healing did she return to normal pack life. At least as normal as a vision-seeing wolf could get. Visions would repeat over and over until she figured them out or the vision came to life. Many were warnings like a tree falling, a spreading sickness, or an oncoming drought. When the problems became real and she wasn't able to solve them she would fall back into her mentally damaged state.
Then one morning after a bad round of seizures and nightmares from an unsolved vision, she was drawn out to the river in a haze. With no recollection of how she arrived there, she decided to take a drink. Azreal stumbled back with a gasp when she gazed into the water and saw the reflection of a dark wolf pup. They looked... just like her! Was this a vision of a pup in trouble?
Frantically she searched the river up and down the edges of the territory. By the time it had become night Azrael was close to giving up. That was when a wisp of blue light, like many she had seen in her visions or walks in the spirit world. Without hesitation she followed it, it lead her across the river and into the desert. Azrael was tired from searching all day and was not fully healed when she had left the pack. But something... otherworldly, carried her paws into the distance. Running and running.
Eventually, the wisp of light broke off from its path along the river and right into the heart of the desert. Fear pricked at her pelt but she forced herself along. Finally, the light vanished completely and Azrael was left in complete darkness. With a sudden flash, a vision lit her thoughts. Bright orange eyes lit the darkness, the pup sat before her. A small one barely more than a few months old was lying in front of her. The pup blinked and it was almost like she blinked into the darkness for a moment.
Azrael couldn't help but take the pup back to the pack. She surprised everyone with the little bundle of fur she was carrying by the scruff. The pup was old enough to speak but not enough to remember where she came from. Azrael adopted the pup as her own and named her Raziel, the keeper of secrets.
