mako and rakia, caedric's parents, had never wanted children. rakia's pregnancy was met with anguish from both parties, and when their single son was born, it was only days after that the two vanished from the pack, leaving their newborn son to fend for himself. abandoned by his parents, it was really no surprise to anyone in lichen valley pack that caedric would develop into a quiet, reserved wolf - one who, despite everyone in the pack telling him his parents' poor decisions were not his own, felt a sense of disdain for his own existence. his parents had neglected to name him before their departure, leaving his pupsitter and surrogate mother, ksara, to pick up the helm.

caedric had formed a habit of straying away from other pups his age, much preferring to tend to himself and developing friendships with the adults in the pack. while many saw him as mature for his age, there were many too who were concerned for the young male's development. he showed an intense interest in sneaking out on his own, much to the chagrin of ksara, and she found herself having to keep a keen eye on caedric. many assumed he would make a great tracker upon reaching adulthood, but these ambitions were cut short at only eight weeks when caedric wandered too close to a neighboring pack. attacked on sight, caedric returned to lichen valley bloodied and bruised, his left eye gouged.

caedric was quickly placed in the care of cain, lichen valley's medic at the time, where he spent the remainder of his youth and adolescence. though cain was successful in mending his many cuts and bruises, his eye inevitably necrosed, rendering it completely useless and officially making caedric half-blind. months of interaction bolstered a father-son relationship between the medic and caedric, and at five months, cain and dew (cain's mate) officially adopted him. it seemed only natural, then, that cain would wish to appoint caedric as an apprentice, especially so considering his birth daughter's (ivis) reluctance towards learning medicine.

caedric slotted naturally into the role of a medic. though his disability made him ill-fitted for the life of a scout, the herb-gathering lifestyle of an herbalist allowed caedric the ability to travel to his heart's content. for once, caedric seemed to come into his own, becoming more sociable and light-hearted. though he retained his soft-spoken, quiet nature, many in lichen valley recalled that he smiled more than ever before once he followed in cain's pawsteps.

upon becoming an adult, cain gratefully and proudly titled caedric as lichen valley's new medic, eager to retire himself. the pack rejoiced in the wake of his ascension to herbalist, and caedric continued to surprise the pack with his prowess and personable nature amongst his pack members. it was during the early parts of his career that he developed a fondness for ometta, a talented scout and daughter of vala, lichen valley's leader. though he swooned from afar, caedric thought himself unfit for a mate of such prestige and heritage. it wasn't until ometta offered to pick herbs with him on her downtime that he found the courage to speak to her, and within a few months ometta found herself completely smitten with the soft medic. the two officially became mates after eight months of courtship.
