Name Origin: Kaguya is a Japanese Moon Goddess from the myth "The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter."
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Kayuga was a wolf hardened by time and experience, bearing the scars of her past on her soul. But if you were to mistake her weariness for callousness or cruelty, you would be wrong.
Kayuga was not always so hardened to life; She was once a bright young pup enthralled by the idea of learning about herbs and helping others. She still retains her kindness, at least, but she has become something far from that naïve little pup. Sometimes, she wonders if that pup would recognize her now.
But, things change. She was paired with another wolf; the herbalist of the pack who would be her mate and train her in his craft. Red Angler was not kind to her. He was overbearing, drowning her out so that sometimes she thought that no one could hear her at all, they could only hear him.
Red Angler drowned her out until his very last day, when he was too weak to talk at all, and no medicine could help him. Kayuga could not say she didn't mourn him – how could she not morn the wolf she had spent so much of her life with, even as cruel as he was? But she did not mourn him as much as she should have, being his mate.
After Red Angler, Kayuga stepped up to the position of the packs herbalist, and with her new title came a new responsibility; A small, blue-ish gray pup covered in streaks of green and tan. Alamak was not her own pup - though she had plenty of those -but she was Kayugas apprentice. And before too long, she was Kayugas friend.
It was decided that Alamak would be paired with one of Kayugas male pups, should she produce one in her final litter. But Kayuga did not think she had it in her to make another wolf suffer her own fate, especially not someone she was so close to. She decided that if she should have a male pup in her last litter, she would send it to live with the father in hopes that both her pup and Alamak would have the chance at a better life.
Now, in her old age, Kayuga doubts the connection she has always had to the moon. She may have bear its mark on her fur, but how much did that really mean? What force of nature would bind these old bones to eternity? What magic would keep her from aging any further? Perhaps, she was just a wolf. Only time would tell.
