In the past, some wolves may have called her plain—unremarkable, even. Her role in the old highlands was that of a hunter, born from a bloodline of swift-pawed providers who eagerly carried the wellbeing of the kingdom on their slim shoulders. Wolves from her line were known for their wide-set paws and sprinter build with muscular haunches, narrow muzzles, and powerful forearms capable of scaling jagged cliffs to reach the wayward mountain goats above. A "dime a dozen," really. After all, what kind of able-bodied wolf was incapable of providing food for their family? Huntresses of Aoibhe's line should be no different.
Not that she would know firstpaw, though. In truth, it was rare that she stepped onto Hibernia's hunting grounds with the promise of sharing glory with her mother and packmates. She was still an apprentice when her life changed forever and was delegated to one of the lesser tasks: butchering the party's kills to be distributed throughout the kingdom.
Each day, she would expertly tear the skin away from her mother's spoils. Her caramel-brown fur and tawny-cream undercoat had turned various shades of ruby and crimson by the time her work was complete, sparing only her dark cedar dorsal fur that spread between her ears and nose bridge. Her distinct sky-blue eyes would often peak over the side of each carcass, unmarred by her newly screened mask of gore. How funny her mother's chiding would be now:
"Stars and roots, daughter. How will you ever find a mate with such wild manners?"
