It was winter and the last thing that Skyee thought she would be facing was the biter cold with two very young pups to care for without a pack or safe warm den to call home. A tear turned to ice and clung to her soft facial fur, she thought she had a family, a pack and a mate, but the mate she thought she had had turned her out shortly after she had given birth to her pups. In a desperate attempt to find food for her small ones who whimpered, shivered and cried in the bitter cold, she went to the wolf trade center, maybe someone would have a small mouse or bird they could spare. A fear and weight shrouded her heart, how could she hunt to provide for her pups in this cold? She couldn't leave them alone and had no place safe to leave them. Her pups whined and she licked their faces, stopping so she could wrap her tail around them and offer them the warmth of her body. She hung her head, whatever would she do? She looked up and through her blurred vision she saw a pair of deep blue eyes studying her. He seemed to be reading into her very soul and his large paws carried him closer, he slowed and gave her a friendly wag of his tail to show he meant no harm. His voice was warm and gentle as he asked her about why she was out with such small young pups and listened carefully as she told him about suddenly being abandoned to the cold. More tears rolled down her face and the kind stranger licked them away before they could freeze on her fur. He introduces himself as Equinox, and tells her that though he is a young Alpha he would open his pack to her and her pups. He licked one of the shivering pups on the head and promised to rise them as his own. Skyee was overwhelmed with gratitude, this kind stranger had surely saved all their lives. She walked with him to his dun in the mountains, knowing the pup he carried was now safe, that they were all safe and she hoped this time this would be the home and family she thought she had.
