Selene

The youngest child of Khonsu and Tara, and unlike her siblings she never felt the urge to become a hunter, like most of the rest of her family. She also had no wish to become a pupsitter, like her eldest siblings.

At midnight, the second Selene became an adult, a small moon appeared over her head. She awoke, feeling a whisper in the air, growing softer when the sun came up.

When the other wolves awoke, she was swiftly moved into the banishment cave with her father and aunt, something about the other wolves wanting to be able to sleep.

She didn't care. She had her mother's connection to the Dreamlands!

She brought this up with Luna, her parent's other lunar furred child, as Selene figured if anyone could share her ability it would be Luna. The hunter said he couldn't sense the Dreamlands, and mourned that the ability had slipped him by. Luna said the younger one should tell Thor about her ability, as it could prove very useful.


Despite her joy at innate knowledge of the Dreamlands, her scatterbrained nature was her undoing. Where her mother had been confident and precise about the happenings of the Dreamland, Selene was not.

Twice she predicted that it would be opening, only for Thor to find no trace of the world.

When she finally did notice their opening, she went excitedly to Thor, only for him to return, fresh from the lunar realm.

Selene begged Thor to allow her to cross to the dream world, desperate to know the land her mother came from. Silently, she hoped that once she had been to the world, her abilities would sharpen.

Thor, after Selene's begging and pressure from her siblings, relented and allowed the younger to adventure with him.

Overjoyed, the descendant of dreams raced around the Lunar Forest, excitedly talking to all the creatures she could, with Thor mimicking with his own, by now ritual, adventure.

Once Thor had deemed their venture over, they crossed over, Selene bursting to tell her family what she had seen.

That night, she predicted that the doorway would close, ignoring everyone's queries as to why it was closing so soon. After sharing her prediction, she fell comfortably asleep.

The next morning she was showered in lunar dust by the pups, delighted in showing her wrong. Distraught, Selene ran from the pack, and decided that she would flee to the Dreamlands forever.

How could she face them? She was an adult and she had run like a pup.

When night appeared, the remnants of dust on her fur allowed her to cross.

She lay down and rested, not sure of what to do. Her eyes fell closed.


They opened to a group of butterflies (what was that called?) flickering around her face.

Go, they seemed to speak to her. Go home.

"I can't!" She called back. "I'm no good with my ability! They'll just make fun of me!"

We can help you, they replied. We can help you if you wish to go back.

Did she want to go back? To her pack?

Of course she did. Now she had the bravery to do so.


She stumbled out of the Dreamlands, the butterflies trailing behind her and leaving a glowing trail in their wake.

Thor welcomed her back, humour in his eyes letting Selene know he knew she had had a life changing trip to the Dreamlands, adding to the list.

With questions from her siblings, Selene explained that the butterflies would help her with her ability. If pack members were concerned about her statement, they didn't share.


Once she'd (finally) reached adulthood, she inherited her mother's cape, one selene wolf to another.
