Even as a pup, Valka knew she was different, she didn’t quite belong. She was born to a rough pack in a time of war. Another pack and her own were battling for territory, seeing as the forest was being torn down by humans. Both packs lived at the base of an enormous mountain range, and there was no longer enough room or prey to go around. The losing pack would have to cross the mountains and seek new territory on the other side, but during the harsh winter, this was a nearly impossible task. Valkas alpha was desperate to win, and his determination made him a little bit crazed. He forced all pack members- even young pups- to train for battle. With all the practicing and sparring, there was hardly any time for hunters to gather food. Their herbalist couldn’t find any herbs to heal the injured either, since the enemy pack had taken over most of the areas that were rich with plants. The pack was dying... and the alpha was doing nothing to save it. He was fixated on winning the war, and in his fury, he ignored the well being of his wolves. Valka worked hard during this time, hunting and fighting. She was able to carry her own weight despite being barely a year old. But she knew the fight was pointless... the enemy wolves would tear them to shreds (if they didn’t starve first) She tried to reason with her alpha, but he refused to listen. Valka was starving and sick of fighting a losing war... she longed for peace and freedom. So that’s exactly what she set out to find. She ran off one night, determined to run far away from the mountains... but first she had to cross over the enemy packs territory. Luckily, most of their patrols were sleeping. ("Sure, their alpha lets them sleep, while ours makes us stay up all night and train" Valka thought) She was just about out of their territory, when she heard branches cracking behind her.
