Owl Eye

A few moons after the pack was formed, young Oak was sitting sentry duty at dawn when he heard a noise from outside the pack den. A small mottled figure was digging around in the food stores! Oak at first sight thought it a coyote, but then realized it was a adolescent female wolf from her smell.

Owl Eye had been chased out by her old pack for lack of space. She was never very popular among her old pack mates, keeping to herself, and was no stranger to sneaking food from the stores when others thought she hadn't earned any for herself. Today was too easy - this pack's food stores weren't even guarded, and the sentry was dozing off near an entrance to what had to be a sleeping den. Owl rummaged through the beavers and rats and weasels, finally selecting a fat hare.

"Hey!"

Owl turned to see the sentry bristling at her. He was big, but not much older than her, and his unsure expression told her she was not about to be attacked.

Owl tilted her head at him, hare in mouth, and in a blink scampered away.

"HEY!"

Owl ran the way she thought she came, on a path that went south towards a collection of small rivers and where hopefully her scent would be lost. But the more she ran the more uncertain she became that this was the right path. She paused momentarily - nobody was behind her - and tried to gain sense of her surroundings.

Suddenly, a light gray figure bowled her over, and she tumbled to the ground, hare falling out of her mouth. A she-wolf stood above her. Owl squirmed around, but her small body would not shake off this full grown wolf. Circling the two were a tawny-gold male, a creamy brown female, and the big brown sentry from earlier.
