Gideon, leader of the maulers, is a forward-thinking sort. Not as aloof as Ambrose, but not as hateful as Philomene, he falls into line as a decent enough commander for his natural tendency to lead. The downside is that he believes he's the only one fit for the position. To be fair, he's reinforced his claims. He was the reason why Osmoor chose to join the hunting crew, as he was just too abrasive for the latter's anxious personality. Impressed with individuals who "hold their ground," he commands his regiment with a steel will and iron jaws.
