River Prince was alpha of a small pack not far from where the Nightwing pack carved out their territory. However, River Prince was young and inexperience and had no one around to guide him. During his first winter as alpha, disaster struck. Their hunting party couldn't catch anything and one by one they began to waste away. Most of the members of the pack left to seek out what they hoped would be better fortunes. River Prince brought the remaining members of his pack into Nightwing territory in the hopes of stealing food. Flash and Sabek caught them, but quickly understood the situation and offered the newcomers food and shelter. When the rest of the pack left in the spring, River Prince remained, eager to learn from Sabek so that one day he might be able to lead a new pack without repeating the mistakes of his past.
