My mom, Rust, isn't happy with this new leadership. She says Labradorite is too strict and controlling-that he's trying to destroy everything good about the Pack of Boulders. I don't know about that. . .but I did see how upset Mom was when Labradorite chased off her pups. She was devastated, and he hardly did anything to comfort her! Besides, I don't like how he's dealing with us pupsitters. Pretty much any pup he can't fit into a hunting party is heading to us, no matter their skillset and personality. And he's pretty much consolidated us just into Rust and Onyx's family. Once Pumice (she's ancient!) and Mom are gone, it'll just be me, my little scatter-brained brother Ekanite who can't focus on anything for longer than the flap of a butterfly's wings; and adventurous little Bauxite, who I can already tell would be happier scouting out new lands. I'm conflicted. On one hand, I want to love and support my pack, even if that means following a leader I don't agree with. On the other hand, Rust and Onyx raised me when my biological parents wouldn't. Don't I owe it to them to be loyal to them? I don't know what to do!

No, no, no! She wasn't supposed to go this soon! She wasn't supposed to leave me alone before Ekanite was ready. There are no others. I'm the only pupsitter in the pack right now. We don't have many pups, but I'm not ready to do this on my own! I'm so new to this. How could she have died? She seemed so healthy one day, and then she was on her deathbed the next. How did no one notice? Why didn't my sister, Rhyolite check in on her and see that something was wrong?

. . .it must have been Labradorite. He must be behind this. He never liked Rust, and he must have known that she didn't like him. He must have planned something to get rid of her! It's his fault she died! I was unsure before, but now I am certain. Labradorite is not good for my family or my pack. He has to go. I will carry on my mother's wishes and lead a rebellion against him. We will not stand for this treatment! Now, who to go to. . .I bet I can convince my dad, Onyx to do something. Maybe he can talk to his siblings and feel them out. They're all pretty close. But Cassiterite. . .hmm, maybe I'll tell Onyx not to bring this up to our 'leader's' mate. I'm pretty sure I can get all my siblings on board. They'll be just as mad as I am when I tell them what Labradorite's done. Onto planning. I won't let you down, Mom.
