During their 10 years of marriage, my mom and dad had 3 kids, my big brother, myself, and my younger brother. I'm not sure of most of the details of their life together with all of us, but in any picture i see my Dad was always impossibly happy. His smile was as bright as any Id ever seen in person and i dont believe he regretted even a minute of his life. My father, without a doubt, died with his enormous ego intact, believing for sure that everyone he knew loved him.. and they did. He had hundreds of genuine friends and every single one shed tears for him, even the worst of them.
My Dad, in my perspective was an odd man. He was never very "grown up" to me, he was always acting dumb in some way and being loud and doing not-so-smart things. I remember how every fire we had needed sawdust or gasoline thrown on it, and every summer watermelon was chopped up with a sword. Any snowmmen that were built were beat up or shot at with bb guns and 80% of my life at his house was spent in the woods, climbing and exploring and learning.
More than any of what we all did together, he was an artist. His favorite medium was music, and beyond that he loved Guitars. After we counted all of his instruments, he had 27 guitars, 2 drumsets (1 electric),1 bongo drum set (2 drums), like 5 other individual skin drums, all of the electronics to go with it all, more instruments probably were lent to friends and more still were in pieces, as he liked to repair and restore guitars. He painted as well, most often he did landscapes of dark and mysterious looking woods and waterfalls, or beautiful fields with silos or ocean cliffs with lighthouses.
BEYOND THAT as well, he did loads of odd crafts. He'd make anything he could imagine out of anything he could find. He turned old clay into little statuettes, bent silverware into little bugs. He wove and beaded his own necklaces, he always made those for family. My favorite little craft he did that i always thought was stupid was he made little Harley Davidson looking motorcycles out of beer bottle caps, hot glue and copper wire. Some of them were so realistic you might think you could drive it away xD There are so many other things he made that i cant even begin to remember all of it.. he carved pipes and made dangly decorations for your ceiling. He could make the most BEAUTIFUL hardwood floor youd ever seen. He would use all different types and colors of wood and just slap together a pattern you had never seen before and do it for just as cheap as any floor place⦠there were so many things that made him who he was and so many still that i can't remember..
His dog, Marley, is an Australian shephard. Hes about 13 years old and has lived the most fulfilling life any mutt could ask for. His favorite things in the world are his frisbee and his tennis balls, and the only thing hes ever loved more than those was exploring the woods with us kids. This dog spent his best years doing nothing but running and sniffing, i think he even had a litter of half-pittie puppies one time and he had to get fixed right after. His last days are full of the prime of his life, lived on a farm surrounded by family and kid-cousins and all kinds of farm smells. He is of some comfort to my Grandmother, who of course misses my dad dearly.
I'll be sure to put some more in here of course. This is my new Journal.
