Death
"No! Wait, please, please, come back!" The pup swung around, body trembling and legs threatening to give way underneath him. "Please, I just wanted to-" he was cut off, a black shadow with streaks of green and yellow light had slammed into him, pushing the young one back, back, into the pool of frigid water. "You are not my pup!" A voice snarled before the small area was filled with the horrible sound of a pup struggling, yelping, water bubbling and then... silence.
Silence before a hiss of air as the malicious spirit dissolved before the sound of almost silent paws came closer. A low croon filled the air. "Oh, pup..." A moss green she-wolf had appeared, padding slowly and languidly towards the water where the carcass lay. Reaching down she nosed at their fur, checking for any sign of life.
There was none.
The spirit picked up the pup and put him down in a small patch of moss that was already growing behind her. As the she-wolf curled around the youngster the moss grew bigger, cushioning the two wolves.
Rebirth
Close to a day passed as the two lay there, one breathing, one not. It was almost midnight when the clovers began to grow, pushing past the moss and wrapping around the pup. The older she-wolf startled and slowly stepped away. Nothing more happened for another hour or so but the female kept near the pup.
Until the light came. Shining and spinning around the wolves as the moss-green wolf realised what was happening and huffed softly in disbelief, tail wagging softly as she stepped away. With a wispy sigh, the miniature spirits faded into the wolf semi-covered with clover. A few seconds passed before the young one took in a raspy breath, water pouring from his mouth. His eyes opened, glowing for a second before they faded to a softer, greener glow and focused on something behind the she-wolf.
The spirit before him gasped in shock at his bare face, ripped apart to reveal his skull before her eyes wandered down to his coat, clovers had sprouted there. Ah. Even more of a sign that he died in a distressed way... quite unlike herself, who had simply faded away after trying to help a pregnant mother and ending up being killed by the alpha she was trying to escape. The moss had simply become part of her, much like the clover with this young one. The sound of claws on the ground startled the other back to the present time and she turned to see one of the Sídhe approaching. Oh... the Barghest? But they couldn't cross rivers, he died in a pond... she gazed across the water, seeing the glimmer of moonlight across on the far side. Ah, this did count.
Moving On
While the female was questioning logicalities, the pup had grown used to his new appearance... his new form? And then the other spirit... was it a spirit? On slightly unsteady feet the pup rose, looking towards the other in confusion. The she-wolf almost took a step towards him but the half-cat, half-skeleton creature came forward first, purring loudly but raspily and settling his fur, letting the green pup move forward to greet the other spirit. After a few seconds, the two wolves moved forward, the older feeling as though she should help while the younger simply wanted comfort. And they collided, the pup winding himself in between her front legs, the Barghest ending up semi-curled on the pup despite being almost his size. It was half mist which was helpful. "Hello, pup... I'm Pren Pwdr." Pren whispered and the younger looked up, frowning for a second. "My... Barghest? Says that my name is Peth Cors..." He replied softly. "Welcome to your new life Peth Cors. Follow me, and I'll keep you safe. Follow me and I'll keep you comforted, and loved. Follow me home." She stepped away, moving away from the dark den and towards the exit, mindful of the Barghest slipping in and out of existence.
They stepped into the moonlight, one small form flickering, the other small form with ears forward, body ready as they took in the air and a large figure glancing down to the others before facing forward once more, prepared to lead the others to a safer life.
