Neidr

Neidr. Snake. It was appropriate. He wound his way back to a pack, practically from the dead, where he lay. Waiting. And soon enough, someone came looking. He left one pack and was taken into another, run by an old leader and an even older goddess. Neidr went, expecting to rule the pack and.... was promptly put in his place. It was a good thing most wolves don't mind scars.

But his nature didn't change. He became a scout bringing back many trophies from his travels. Stories as well. Many were believed to be fake but some had proof. Much like the one he wears. It goes like this:

The glacier was a cold, horrid place. It had no shelter barring the craggy cliffs and the creatures that roamed it were perhaps worse than the weather that tore even the strongest wolves to mewling cubs. It was a good thing he could travel with the wind instead of fighting against it, slithering into the cracks and avoiding most of the dangers scouting could bring.

But wolves can hunt. Of course they can, evolved to take down animals double their size. A small pack had appeared before him, three figures rising from the snow. Neidr stood out in snow, green and black contrasting harshly against the pure white snow. It took barely seconds for a fight to break out.

One lunged at Neidr's side and another for his face. At his pain, phrog came to see, noting the levels. The presence of the goddess distracted Neidr and at the falter, the third wolf managed to lunge at his back. Teeth flashing and fur bristling he dragged one down, fuelled by anger that his scouting was disturbed. One had gotten a grip on the back of his neck and the clover based wolf snarled, whipping his head back to shake it off. It spun away, slipping on the bloody snow and the third wolf closed in, but as Neidr lunged for it, it quickly hopped away. It circled, pausing to quickly sniff at its companion who had slid across the ground, leaving a trail of both parties blood. It was dead. That spurred the attacking wolf on and Neidr met it halfway, going straight for the jugular. As he finished off that one, there was a low growl and he spun to see another wolf, fur plain and free of blood. Larger than him. It paused to sniff at the bodies of its... packmates? Maybe. And Neidr shook, the blood on his fur staining the ground. Its eyes turned, focused on Neidr and it lunged forwards. It was quick. Neidr was pinned, panting and huffing, for perhaps the first time he was scared of how he may end up. Being sick and left alone, he could handle. Failing at gaining a place in the pack right away, he knew he would survive.

But this? Neidr wasn't so sure.

He gave a small whine, trying to get away, but the wolf ignored him, turning as if preparing to bark. And Neidr lunged, again. He grabbed onto the fur at the wolf's neck and bit, grabbing on. The wolf gave a yelp of pain, trying to shake Neidr off but he held fast, dragging the other down.

He refuses to tell the rest and phrog will not speak of it but he returned to the pack, a god-made trophy crafted with the tail of a white wolf was curled around his tail. Most wolves can guess what happened.

The snake is getting old. His body is weary and his mind grows dull but he still remembers. He still remembers his stories and his past. And while he does not know it, soon the wolf will be immortalised. Soon all the pack, present and future will know of one of the greatest wolves to be in their pack.
